what's better about a standard production model?

at the time of its release, i really thought it was based on the 87 frame. I thought GEC was just doing a run for the remington brand, and then releasing a pattern with those specs on its own.

That's the one I just couldn't think of and my Google searching wasn't coming up with it because Remington branded. My brain was telling me there was maybe another Northwoods...but this was it. Thank you!

I don't believe the Remington Barlow is based on the 97. The 97 is a large swell center folding hunter (or coke bottle). If I recall correctly, the Remington was its own thing and not based on any existing GEC pattern.

Tough call for sure.

Hard to not go ebony, to match the Black Jack (the greatest pocketknife ever made).

But the white bone is very beautiful, and bone ranks higher on the scale material "value meter" than does wood. Both will age or collect very well, I reckon.
