Lets talk GEC!

Holy stromboli they look good. Hopefully I can get my hands on an ebony. Would take a purple sage natural bone if I had to!

Fingers crossed, haven't had the finances to buy a knife for a while now. Sucked missing out on the forum one for this year.

It’s royal blue, not ebony.

A number of very interesting choices present themselves: Black Sawn Delrin- YES YES YES back to roots Barlow with tough synthetic scales (Buck Valox) Purple Sage Bone (liked previous runs of this) and if you go for the Gent's Jack, Purple Phlox . Alright for the Christmas Stocking, if lucky:)

If you look at the top of the forum page there are still a few 2023 Bladeforum knives available. Those are a sure thing so don’t miss out!

I think I can afford one knife over the next few months, my preference is for a lamb or sheepsfoot. It's my favourite design and I don't have a decent one (just one so-so Wright one that tears my nail off the finger and gives me splinters!).

A year or two ago, I sorted some miscellaneous Ebony knives into a drawer, and this one bided its time in a corner of the drawer until I came across it today!! I noticed the numbers didn't seem to agree with the pattern. On this knife, it reads 748117!!
Shouldn't it be 741117?? Opinions please!!!:D

(Edited - I checked on GEC's site and the numbers are correct!! picture added here)Ebony-Wood 478116-Tidiote.jpg
So the clip-shaped blade in this knife is an "8" not a "1"!!
Anyway, the ebony has a very slight brownish streak in it; very lively. The action is very smooth, with about a 7 pull, just perfect IMO!!! The matte finish is pleasing also!! I've long ago misplaced/lost the tube, so maybe I'll carry this one some day - it feels so nice!! I guess I am not a true GEC collector, or I'd keep better track of the tubes!!
Anyway, please enjoy my pics, of a very well made GEC Stallion!!!

Comparison of Clip blades!!
GEC code: The top blade is a GEC #1 (polished), and the bottom is a GEC #8 (matte)!!View attachment 2408806
8 is said to be Muskrat clip, which I think is the case here, so everything seems to be correct.

I am worse - I did destroyed a few tubes trying to get the art off. Only the standard Tiddy and Northfield though! Special arts I dare not to touch. Yet. 😬 Some came off great, others got torn, sadly. Northfield art is the most stubborn, on the contrary Tidioute ones (some special arts too) have corners already slightly peeled off. Regular hairdryer on low mode is a big help in that quest, I should say.

Why, it usually works like that. You get a dark tone, and the more you polish it, the more will lighter tone it gets. Even changes the color. We see it all the time with GEC's bone, aren't we?

Which red?
I believe he means that lightening dark blue will give you light blue - not purple.

For purple, you'd need some blue and some red and then, if you polish really diligently, you might wind up with the holiest grail of them all - lavender!

Ah, I see, thank you. Then my guess would be that they accidentally dyed same model with different dye, or it was the dye, or something. I just remembered the last 77 Barlow and how its "yellow" bone was actually black mainly, with yellow only coming out at the polished off corners, hence my initial thought.

The antique yellow sawcut 77s are dark brown it can appear black on some of the darker models. It is most likely a burnt ochre of some sort that is leaving a yellow stain on the bone.

It appears to me that the top knife is just light blue on the polished edges where on the bottom knives there is a definite red in the dye. My guess, purely a guess is they sorted the lighter blue slabs where the dye did not take and put them in some red dye.

Charlie, Alex is correct, GEC is calling that a muskrat clip. My favorite Cuban Stockman pattern is the #5383xx, again with the muskrat clip main, although an even narrower one than is in the Stallion. It seems to me that if the clipped portion of the blade is longer than the straight spine portion, then it's a muskrat clip.
