Lets talk GEC!

My Monday carry. These are labeled Stockyard Whittler, sort of a merger of the Cattle Knife and a heavy-duty whittler - whatever ancient pattern it replicates I don’t know, but what a perfect blend of blades in a pocketknife. OH

That is an excellent combination, well done in your pick.

I saw an opportunity to snag a richlite bull buster for less than $100 so I impulse bought it. Never considered getting a lockback before. How do they perform? I guess I'll learn something about richlite and GEC lockbacks at least.

I have a GEC user lock back that has held up well. Solid, no blade wobble.

You will see a few posts every so often about people having some blade play, but I think that's not the majority.

Bonus is that depending on your finger size and dexterity you may be able to one hand open and close.

After doing some looking at the 53,I confess I never really looked at them before because you just don't see them, and it seems it has been almost12 years since the furtaker trapper with a clip and a wharncliffe, then you have the Castros blue prints also sitting in the archives waiting to be dusted off,I say better late than never.

The picture of the ESPL is posted and I still can't tell but it does look like a navy blue paper micarta maybe.

Would providing an actual written description of the knife, including an explanation of the made-up acronym, really be that much to ask?

I get it that "a picture is worth a thousand words" and yet, we still use words on a daily basis - mostly because they are effective at filling in the gaps in communication that a picture can't.

Just buy the Extra Smelly Panty Liner micarta knife and stop asking questions.

Seriously, the material looks a lot like some lime green paper micarta that I got from edge knifeworks. Might be the same maker.

Honestly - when I first saw the "ESPL" acronym, I thought "ESPeciaL" and figured they'd be going with a spicy Latin motif complete with the "Tango" guitar shield.

It also made me think of "ESL" or "English as a Second Language" which are "Especial" classes they put non-English-speaking immigrants in down here in South Florida to help get them up to speed for their other classes, which are mostly still taught in English (well, maybe 50/50 🤣) - and also fit with my imagined Latin theme...
