Lets talk GEC!

Just a quick pic. New addition to my collection. Gec 99 f&f. Has blade play in all directions not a deal breaker for me. But does anyone else have one with blade play ?

None of my GECs have blade play.

If I got a GEC with blade play, I would return it. It is a problem that the factory can remedy.

I dig your lanyard, looks good.

You're welcome!

I don't want to sound negative, but blade play is just something I don't think consumers should have to accept on knives, especially at this price point.

I've purchased around 20 or so GEC folders in the last 8 months and, fortunately, none have had blade play. I really like the brand and think they build a great knife.

Bladeplay on GEC' lockbacks have been a 'norm' that many have accepted and one that has deterred me from picking up one of their lockbacks till now. That being said, they seem to have addressed this issue from personal reports from the Rendezvous with their locking bars. I've asked several members how the up and down play was on their 83 and all of them said non-existent now. I think it's been fixed completely, only time will tell.

I really enjoy the bullnose ! I wanted to try something else by they and that 99 came up on eBay so I figured I'd try it out.

There is still some "discernible" up/down movement in the lockbacks. But as they get closer to eliminating it the tighter those bars are going to lock up - be sure to clean / oil them well. Back in the day folks wanted some walk/talk even in there lockbacks, so the factories (including GEC) shimmed the joint a little to have a free flowing blade that the lockbar could still put some pressure on. But the consumers have spoken, so they have taken all the slack out and now you push your blade open/closed in most cases - but no side movement found...

Guess I'll send it off to get fixed. I have another knife from a company in that same area that needs fixing. Lucky PA isn't to far from me.

a cheaper GEC #48, just got convinced to get one in stag, but would definitely like one i can put in my pocket around the $50-60 price range

I have 2 GEC green linen micarta 1 has a tang stamp of 715113 and the other 715114.
But I have a green canvas with a tang stamp of 715114.
Can anybody give some info on why that would be as I am new to the GEC world

The last two numbers are the year of manufacture from GEC. So you have two from 2014 and one from 2013.

Thinking out loud here but I would love to see GEC do a real gentleman's knife (maybe a lobster). Stainless blades, MOP handles, tip bolsters, and coined liners.
