Lets talk GEC!

Why are you so sure it will take a couple of months? Did Chris tell you that?

Because I remember reading on the forum somewhere that an individual was told just that and they did not want to wait so they sold the knife in question. I wasn't complaining or bad mouthing. Just what I remember reading on the forum somewhere.

Wait times on warranty work depends on where they are in the current production schedule. I believe it's been posted here before that GEC doesn't have a specific "Warranty" person. Rather, the regular workers will fix a knife when there is a lull in production - while they are waiting for the parts of the current run to hit their station. That could be a couple of weeks like the case with the 1 individual. More often I've heard it only being a week to 2 week turnaround. But it depends.

That case where there was a long wait for the individual, wasn't GEC in the middle of making a couple hundred BF knives? Or another run of #15s (which ends up in the hundreds also?)

I believe having a knife away for warranty work is really only an issue if you only have a few knives and that most of us have more than a few to keep us occupied until the warranty work is completed.

I didn't think you were complaining or badmouthing. Turns out, you can't believe everything you read on the internet. Some people here are really REALLY picky and impatient. I live 45 minutes away from the factory so that could be a factor, though I doubt it, but I've sent 3-5 knives in and they've taken from less than a week to around 3-4 weeks. It depends how busy they are and how involved the repair is you need. I wouldn't worry too much.

Is this like zippo? where you can drop your knife off and watch people go to work on it? Or its like great thanks for dropping it off, well get to it when theres a lull in productions.

Well... I think it depends. I had a knife with exposed pins that I took up once and Mr. Howard took it right then and worked on it while I watched, but I wouldn't expect that (it was during the Rendezvous, I believe). I think it's mostly you send in the knife with what you believe needs fixing, they look it over and let you know they received it and sometimes a general timeframe, then they work on it when they can.

GEC is definitely NOT like Zippo in that Zippo is a huge company with a whole warranty department, I would think. GEC is a small company with only a handful of employees. They are extremely skilled at what they do (believe me, if you get a chance take the tour) but they have to work on the scheduled runs first and do warranty work in unused time.

Oh my, those Hawthornes in ivory are great looking! Did anybody get one (or two... HEHE)?

Sent the #72 off just now! I am excited to have this blade back in fighting form. I know it will be a pocket hog for sure.

Lol, pocket hog. Let us know how long it takes to return to you!

How was the blade lockup on the last run of 42s? Anyone know or remember?

ah i see. cause I doubt case would do that. I got a slimline trapper with a pin that was more obtrusive then id like. Although Zippo owns case, I doubt the warranty works like that. I just got into GEC, with a few more on the auction block atm and hopefully to my collection. Its good to know how the repairs work if there are any in the future.

Will do! Chris was extremely nice and helpful. Already a much better experience than the one I had with Queen.

Three posts about dealers moved to the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Forum. That is the proper place to talk about dealers.

The GEC 66 Calf Roper is my favorite knife of all.I grew up on various Stockman pattern knives and Buck knives as that was pretty much all of the available patterns to me as a kid.Takes me back to my roots[emoji5]

Well, they may be extraordinarily busy this summer, because they cashed my check to repair a cracked Cocobolo scale on a single blade #25 on July 14. Last I heard on August 25, they had some people come in on the weekend to work on repairs and they hoped to get them done that week. Like I said, it sounds like they're busier than typical.

I'm not sweating it, but I was expecting a quicker turnaround from reading posts like yours. Rendevoux was in the time frame, too. This is not intended to be a picky or impatient post. I like their knives and I'm glad they're busy.

Yeah, that's certainly possible. Also, a cover replacement is a bigger/more involved repair than any of mine have been.

Did anyone here pick up one of the GEC knives with ivory handles that were put together to use up their ivory before the end of September ?
By the time i saw these knives only a few remained but i did manage to get the last #53, a 2 blade Double End Jack. It is likely at the P.O. waiting for me to pick it up.
