Lets talk GEC!

The 78 has a certain mystique. To me it’s not an exceptional looking knife, but maybe the size and pull together make it a grail for a lot of people? Interesting to me that the 78s have been run several times and the similar square-end 77s, only once (except for Barlow SFOs every so often.)
 
I love my #86 for the unique sucker rod wood covers and the perfect blade combo . . .

but wish it was just a hair lighter in the pocket. A #78 with clip main and coping secondary, or a sheepfoot main with pen secondary in 440C would be ideal.
 
The new GEC #78 Barlow reminds me of a slightly shorter Daddy Barlow, or a longer Barlow.
The Daddy Barlows don't follow the1/3 bolster rule either, yet they are still considered Barlows... are they not?
Maybe Daddy Barlows are supposed to be called "Large Long Bolster Barehead Jacks"???
