Lets talk GEC!

What’s everyone’s opinion on the 39? It seems to be very similar to the 15 which is extremely popular. Would be a great platform to do some single clips on in the future.
Here’s a side by side with the 15 boys knife (top).

Single blade Spey is meh but the two blade is my knife of the year from GEC so far.

as Randy mentioned on fb, theyre practically cousins. loving the heavier pull on the 39s, they were better than recent 15s, little thinner tho. The deletes have come out pretty nice too. But who knows, maybe next rendezvous... In fact, that single nail nick spey has me considering a possible ancient mod and the long pull another clip.

Which FB group is Randy posting in?

I’ve only ever handled 13 GECs with 11 (2x 15s) different patterns currently in my collection so by no means “well versed” but it’s my favourite pattern.

Not sure if the single blade Spey would be to my liking though, not at that width/slimness?? The 2 39s I have are both 2 blade and feel very natural to me, as edc.

That being said and U.K. society not as it is then the 86 would be my tool of choice.

I’m very new to FB so not the savviest but my search results seemed to be fairly redacted whenever I search for GEC related pages?
Any advice?

I think recently it has been made hidden so its not one you will find likely. it stands for great eastern cutlery club, some of our members here are moderators, so im sure theyll be glad to help out. we do have some members from the uk in there as well, so if they see this, they may be able to help ya out as well, if you are in slipjoint collectors uk. theres a lot of overlap.

Hi waynorth waynorth would you happen to know what knife that practical knives button came with? I’ve got a list of buttons I’d like to buy from the factory next time I have a few I want and it’s usually easiest if I tell them what knife it goes with instead of sending screenshots of the designs and hoping they can dig up the files 😅

I’ve got a few GEC branded ones that the “practical knives” pin would match quite well. If you can’t recall, I hope you don’t mind if I save this picture for them to reference for the design?

So what is the main difference between the two models?

By all means, keep the pic!!
I don't think that button came with a knife, but I do remember acquiring it at a Rendezvous!! Don't remember the circumstances or the year!!??🤷‍♂️

Ah ok. Now I see the curve. At first I thought it was slightly wider towards the back.

i dont think they came with a particular knife either, just Bill's intention that they were practical knives

Price and availability on secondary market,oh ya plus a slight curve and better walk and talk as they call it.

I go back and forth. When I handle my 15 it has the best w&t of any knife I’ve ever held. When I carry my 39, its w&t is unmatched. …and then there’s the 86 pattern.

I do think those three rule the roost in terms of satisfying action, though the 78s are pretty great also.

I’m a big fan of the 78s. It’s hard to beat a 77 for me though.

Me too. I ended up with 3 of them, which is kind of amazing since they were never a pattern on my radar. Carrying one now actually. They have a delightful action and I like how the nail nicks are on the same side. They’re just about at the upper limit for me in terms of size and weight for edc but they fall under the theoretical bar, not over, so all good!

Ya I have several of the 78 spears and they were a nice size. I’m glad they went with clips on this run. The Rozee is great too
