Lets talk GEC!

Great question, Charlie, and keen eye as usual! My grandmother and grandfather lived in Arizona for many years before they passed. Grandpa was an avid rockhound and amateur jeweler. This was one of his many random polished stones that he left behind. I always loved this green one so I keep it on my desk with other random objects. I assumed malachite, but it could be variscite. I do not know if he found it or bought it or traded for it. I do not know what it is for certain.
It doesn't appear "swirly" enough for malachite, but I'm no expert either!! Nice stone regardless!!

The all-knowing AI is "highly confident" that it is Green Aventurine but says that we would need to confirm the presence of "aventurescence" or tiny particles of Mica trapped within the stone's matrix that make it sparkly when you wiggle it back and forth.

As much as I want to keep hating AI it does come through with some good results with the correct inputs. I just googled Green Aventurine and the darker examples look pretty spot on! 🍀

Thanks for the research!!
Be careful when you wiggle your aventurine!! It can bring you crashing back to earth!!
I've learned so much today!! 🤔 :oops::p

The 66, the 78 and the 81 Bull Moose. All three truly stellar knives, especially in ebony. If forced to keep only one I would pick the American Jack. It has the huge useful pen blade secondary with classic Titusville Iron Works stamp. And the beautiful clip point main blade has about an 8/10 pull and the reassuring yet mildly terrifying guillotine snap close💥

Took out my collection of GEC's in ebony. I think ebony is my favorite cover material, its just so dang gorgeous. I've been spying the new 77's in ebony but I doubt I'll be able to snag one from the dealers... Going to have to rely on the secondary market, hopefully I catch a sale on the exchange. Last resort will be the auction website because I don't think I can go without having one of those in my collection. If I manage to get one It'll be my first 77 and my first knife with a bomber shield.

In the meantime. Here's a picture of the current state of my collection.

Hello everyone. I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I am wanting to get into whittling and the GEC #62 pocket carver was recommended to me, but I can't seem to find one outside of eBay. Does anyone have any tips on finding one to purchase?
Thanks in advance!

I have a couple, there are probably other folks on here that do as well.

They come up often on the exchange. I highly recommend buying a membership here and I’m sure you will snag one up in no time.
