Lets talk GEC!

I scored big! 121111. Local pawn shop for $19 and some change. I’m still in shock. A stabilized crack in the stag that seems nice and secure and a couple or three spots on the blade. A set of initials on the tang stamp. Does anyone know what it stands for? Gonna be a helluva an EDC.

That’s a crazy find and great price! TIW is Titusville Iron Works, it’s the steel factory right across the street from the GEC knife factory.

Was trying to understand what mathematical equation that could be used to find the odds of finding a gec in the pawnshops of the prairie provinces of 🇨🇦, and all I get from ai is a loud laughter.

Eric, I believe your handles are Primitive Bone, and not stag. Pretty rare stuff, they didn't use it very much.
I think Jeff is correct. Outstanding find!

I found a faint serial # 122 on the bolster tonight.

Edit: possibly 22

Edit: After some research, it would appear that this had some etching on the blade that was buffed/sanded/flitzed off. I can’t call it. The knife has been carried but it is tight, was not sharpened, no apparent real blade loss anywhere….has character. I guess there isn’t a lot of reason to treat it as a collectible, right???

EDIT: Re my recent about the Geppetto - from the latest 'In Production" pics it looks like the main blade does run the full length of the frame - so all good then!

KentuckyBlackBird KentuckyBlackBird Find of the century Eric 😍 I'd think the serial No. is more likely 22 and it was probably a run of 25 and this might also be the etching that's faded on the blade -often on the pile side on GECs.

I had one Primitive Bone knife a 26 that was a monster to open, so I traded it but it was beautiful material and interesting too.

From GEC's production totals for 2011, the Primitive Bone Northfield was 30 examples all serialised, so there's only 29 others out there.... But I would use the knife as it's obviously been used carefully

I'm stalking that pawn shop of yours 🤣

Thanks, Will

Thanks for sharing. You could have pushed me over with a feather when I saw it. Sun shines on a dog’s rump every once in a while. It was my day! I thought it was stag initially, as I was not aware of the primitive bone series. That explains the stress cracks in the bone. So, there are only 29 more 121111s out there serialized like this? Crazy. Yep, I’ll carry and lightly use this guy.

Hey nice to meet you today. Great find and it's definitely a small world. It's crazy you ended up standing beside the guy who owns possibly the largest primitive bone collection in the world while showing off your pawn shop find 🤪
