Lets talk GEC!

Just saw this

I just noticed the "V" pull on the main blade!! For extra leverage I guess !!??? 🤔 😂😂😂

How was this thread one away from being on Page 3?! 😲😁

Anyways, to bring it back to the front page, here are some new-to-me GECs from the OKCA show this past weekend.

These three are all patterns that I didn’t have an example of yet. The #63 is from 2015 and the handles are Burnt Stag. The #42 was a 2014 club knife for the Badger Knife Club in Wisconsin. (Funny enough, while at the Badger show a couple weeks ago, I bought a 1982 OKCA club knife.) The #28 French Kate in White Pearl Acrylic is also from 2015.

The #13 on top is the 2013 BladeForums knife I got from danno50 danno50 — thanks again, Dan! The other #13 is a 2017 OKCA club knife in Smooth Ivory Bone.

Before picking up this 2013 liner lock #73 in Autumn Gold jigged bone, my only #73 was a left-handed one. And I couldn’t pass up this nice little #68 in Exotic Mexican Bocote (2011 with a PPP etch).

Last but certainly not least, a Flat Cap Charlie Lamb and a City Stock. Yes, I already had both of these, but now I can have a user and keep one mint. 😁 Besides, you can’t pass up a great deal from the man himself! waynorth waynorth Charlie, thanks again!

I should also say a big thanks to cjm415 cjm415 as I bought several of these knives from him. Thanks again, Chris!

I really wish we could see these pics in the UK, but Imgur has been blocked here because of some regulatory issue or other.

That whole UK-Imgur thing is unfortunate. I’ve uploaded the pics below directly to BladeForums so you can see them. (I’ve thought about moving to that for everything, but after the whole deal a couple years ago where BF imposed a strict limit on the number of photos a member could upload, and the majority of users were suddenly well over their max quota and could no longer upload photos, I’ve been hesitant to switch from Imgur. I also like Imgur because it’s easy for me to go back and repost old photos I’ve already uploaded, but it is a shame that they’re difficult for anyone in the UK to see. You might look into a VPN that allows you to browse from an IP address outside of the UK, I know that has worked for others here, and is also good for online security in general.)

I guess the GEC craze must be over; I found this thread back on page 3 again. 😁

I got this #57 in the mail yesterday. I had decided I would only get one of these (which I may or may not stick to 🤣). I was originally leaning toward the Northfield stag cut bone, but as I saw more photos of finished knives, I ended up moving toward the Tidioute jigged bone instead. It's a very well made knife, nice pull, action, etc., no issues that I can find. Well, there is the minor issue of the tang stamp numbers. I don't know what's been going on there, but ever since they switched their number stamps, every model number tang stamp has looked like it was lined up by a drunk toddler. 😵‍💫

I also strongly dislike the font of the new number stamps compared to the ones they'd used for years. The new ones just don't look as good to me (even if they were lined up straight).

The tang stamp is pretty comical. Once they fix it, people will be collecting the crooked ones. Like having a double stamped Case or something 😆

Here are a couple GECs that I’m pretty happy to have. These are the two club knives that GEC has made for the Badger Knife Club, in 2012 and 2014.

I’ve been going to the Badger show in Janesville, WI for about 5 years now. My friend Neal H herder (who has been going to the show a lot longer than I have) first invited me after I moved to Minnesota, and it has since become a yearly tradition for us to drive over to the show together, meet up for breakfast with bunch of great guys then head to the show. (I was gonna tag all the BF members we meet up, but I’d hate to forget someone. Y’all know who you are.) 😁

The show is good, but hanging out, talking knives, maybe a little show-and-tell… that’s really the best part. Some of the guys just come for the day, others stay the night (the show is conveniently held in a convention center attached to a hotel). We’ve got a favorite place for dinner and a few beers that we go to every year, and there’s usually some additional imbibing and camaraderie before or after dinner, as well. Long story short, the Badger show is always a good time.

As a GEC collector, I learned early on (probably before I even went to the show for the first time) that the club had some past club knives made by GEC. I’d look for them every year, and while there were often tables selling old club knives, they were always examples made by Case or Queen, never the GECs. It wasn’t until last year that I finally found the 2012 knife. Then this year, at the Oregon Knife Collectors show of all places, I found the 2014 Badger Club knife to complete the pair.
