Lets talk GEC!

A little controversy for Tuesday!!! Is this a "one of one" knife??
I traded a small (young) pre-ban tusk to GEC back in the day, for a promise that Bill would handle each pattern that came out, with the material, for a limited time!! I cannot remember if he produced more White Owls with "Bark" or not?!?! I cannot find a record on GEC's site!!! Can anyone help me???
The serial number "04" indicates there are more of these, but maybe "interior", not "bark"???
Here’s Interior and Bark, both serial number 02. The interior cut 68s have satin blades and the bark versions have mirror polished. At least that is the case with this pair. Thanks for making that trade, Charlie waynorth waynorth

Cool!!! You got the nice "crackle" finish one, Bryon!! Good choice!!! Thanks for showing them!!

Here's my First Year GEC but I've had it modded and the secondary blade was deleted. So now in an hundred years time pedants will be bickering over the legitimacy of this ultra rare one of one 🤣 But it is one out of 177. I like the Sheffield Bone on these, colour and jigging. The 73 works better as a single blade for me at least.

They will write a letter to the grandchildren of bill and ask to search the archives to find the reason behind this astounding 1 bladed 73.

The 73 does make a nice one-blade!!! Here's a Bulldog (by GEC) single blade, linerlock on the same frame!!Bulldog horn 73 1.jpgBulldog horn 73 2.jpg

Horn Handles of course!! 2009!!

Hi Charlie, waynorth waynorth , do you have any of your really old GEC purchase orders? I know a dealer who has one of the first 10, was framed in his shop (like PO #06 for some 23's I believe and he may have kept one of the knives) I thought I had a pic, but may have promised to keep it offline. Can't find it at the moment anyways.

Some folks have a list of all their knives, including even where and when they bought them. To me personally it always felt like an unnecessary burden though, so guess I am not a righteous collector. You can make one and spare poor descendants, for AI would surely tell them the whole truth that it is definitely a practical knife with squirrel pictured made by Great Eastern Cutlery which widely used an acorn incrustation inlay on imitation antler handle with blade made of excellent 1095 high carbon steel frozen froged hammered pins trapper fur trading jiggy boo... 😵‍💫 🤪🤣

No, I don't! While I hoard a lot of stuff, I have always been "allergic" to paperwork!! In the first few years, I even threw away my tubes!!! (shudder!)

I collected knives for 30 years or so without keeping a record of any. For whatever reason, I started keeping track when I discovered GEC knives and have recorded each one...purchased, sold & traded with details. At some point, I'd like to make a record of all the others with at least a listing of what I have as the memory of who, what and where has certainly faded :)

You've kept some valuable information!!!

That’s a nice one, Charlie! I agree that the #73 makes a nice single blade knife. Here are a couple single blade #73 liner locks, both in jigged bone (I’d have to look up the names of the bone color/jigging), with one slight difference. 😁

GECs are a whole different story indeed. Currently I just save a catalogue pic of the variant I bought from "Patterns" section and deem myself having enough info on the subject. Currently... 😅
