Lets talk GEC!

Hmm... I just noticed that my white bone H10 which is 440C is not marked Cyclops anywhere. The back says "440CSS". I don't have an older stainless GEC fixed blade to say if they had said cyclops on them or not. I picked this one up November last year.

Grand knife that one Trand. White Bone always looks smart on a knife whatever the pattern, fixed or folding.

I have an early GEC fixed in Horsecut Bone from I think 2008, that certainly has the Cyclops Works tang stamp. They're idiotic getting rid of it, or perhaps there were some legal aspects..?

All the best, Will

One post moved off line. Even if from a BF dealer, posting to state that a certain dealer has a certain knife is not acceptable. Especially when the price is listed. We talk knives, in this forum. Not where to buy or for how much.

As a reference: If you buy a knife and mention a BF dealer from whom you purchased while discussing the knife itself, that is acceptable.

Thanks Will!! I don't have too much white bone and that one fit the bill nicely.

Thanks for the info on the earlier H10s too. I just went through GEC's website and it looks like, besides the recent fixed blades, the last run of stainless knives were the #63 Makos and those were in January. From the pics I found those still had the Cyclops stamp. My #42 below was bought in September last year and it has the Cyclops stamp. I'm hoping that if they do get rid of the Cyclops stamp, its due to something positive like maybe introducing new steels (not really necessary but possible I guess). GEC's F&F line had O-1 stamps instead of Cyclops. And their #65 fish knives had 420HCSS (IIRC) instead of Cyclops. And I had a 420HC #73 and it didn't have Cyclops. It could also be that this move is an attempt to remove any ambiguity on what steel they're stainless knives are? Blade etches have been changed before though. The etch has changed on the NF and TD knives before so maybe its time for the GECs. Just don't change the shield though. I like the acorn.

I just discovered the GEC fixed blades after seeing the post above. Now i have a H2O Drop Point, 6 3/4", Micarta & leather, inbound. I am not to say price here but i can say "wow, least expensive GEC ever" and 1/4 the price of the cheapest BRK.
Usually i would have thought that a USA made FB forsuch a low price, would not be a particularly good knife. But this is a GEC and as far as i know "GEC don't make no bad knives".
Anybody have one ? I think they arrived in 2015.

I don't have any of their fixed blades, although I would REALLY like to find a drop point H23 - those look very nice! Maybe they'll do another run soon?? An H23 in stainless would be an awesome camp knife!

Also, GEC is making blades for Hess - they look very nice as well.

KJ, I just picked up an H20 with the muskrat clip blade handled in natural micarta while touring GEC a couple weeks ago. I bought it as a paring knife and have been very happy with it in that role. I bought it sans sheath for about the same price as a decent case of IPA :D

GEC might just give BRK a little competition in Fixed Blades. BRK knives are superb, often now with 'super' steels, but not all uses require a $200+ knife. GEC fixed blades might just be perfect for spending far less money but still getting a great knife.
I don't have mine yet and i have not seen any reviews, but i'm betting it is going to be what i call "a good knife", meaning one that i'm very happy to use. I have lots of GEC folders, and not one of them is a bad knife. I hope this means their Fixed Blades will be of the same high standard.

I think GEC's fixed blades are very under appreciated. Strikes me odd because their folders are so sought after.

I just bought my first GEC, a lovely #47 Viper!

I see what all the fuss is about. :) Fit and finish is exceptional throughout, including fabulous walk and talk and a dead-center blade.

Yeah that's mini alright! The pemberton is 2.75", the magnum is 2.625", and the esquire is 2.875". It will fit right in with their other smallest models.

I love the pattern and the coping secondary, but man that's small!
I really REALLY hope they put a few more patterns out with the coping blade. They've been on a roll lately.
