Lets talk GEC!

This just got confusing. I thought there was one 'Navy/Rope' knife, but it now looks like there are 2 different SFO's and one GEC run:
1) Waynorth Cutlery #15 "Rope Knife"
2) Lone Star #15 "Sailor Knife" (Devin Thomas Damascus)
3) Tidioute #15 "Navy Knife"

Are #1 & #3 the same knife in different dress ? Waynorth = Un-X-LD, & GEC run = Tidioute
Oh boy, knife collecting is not as easy as it used to be. I'm feelin bumfuzzled by all these varieties.

I sort of agreed with you a long time ago KJ. I decided that I would try to stay with just Northfield if possible?????

Actually, there are 3 SFO's if you include the AAPK Tidioute one.

It IS a lot to keep track of! I pretty much just pick one or two of the bunch and stick with that anymore. Usually I prefer the Northfields, but sometimes the Tidioutes catch my eye too.

Does anyone know what the Brown Snake Skin will look like on the Tidioute Viper? Have they used these scales before?

Don't believe they've used this before. I'm also interested in what they will look like? Is it just a name? Or will it be an acrylic or micarta made to look like reptile skin? Etched bone like CASE used on their Rattlesnake Bone run about 10 years ago?

Some exciting knives about to be released. I'm drawn to the rope knives and I'm getting some, I want and will get a Madison, and a Viper would be nice. So many cover choices...

Lt. wright uses a snakeskin micarta that's sort of a tan with different subtle flecks in it. It might be that. If so, nice stuff.

I now see on one of the dealer sites that it says "Micarta-Brown Snakeskin."

I made an enquiry about the fighting ships knives when they first appeared awhile back (last year?)
Being strictly limited edition and very special materials they command a higher price.
The guy I emailed to ask was very helpful and polite. They are made to raise funds to help maintain and preserve some old battleships.
And if i had a lazy several hundred lying around I'd get one.

Darn..... I was kind of hoping for a new acrylic, something along the lines of juma.

Yes!!! That's a real gasser! Wonderful stuff, looks like it could actually move...:eek: .maybe not a good thought when using a cut-throat razor:D

This is not the case with the #15 Lone Star knives being made today. What you're speaking of was the original plan. I happened to just get off the phone with Percy; and you're right, he's a delight to speak with.

I see the Hawkbill blades have made it to GEC's "What's Happening" page. Did I miss it somewhere along the line or have they not yet indicated what exactly the jigged bone will be? (Color for the #47's jigged bone not shown on the production schedule yet) Trying to decide if I'm going to put in for one not. Thanks.

With the salor knives out on the 15 frame. Think there is any chance of a short 15 run?

Been waiting for a long time for a ebony single blade long pull spear.

I highly doubt this will happen on this run. History shows that when GEC does a run of knives, they all (including SFO's) have the same blade shape. The only differences being nail nicks vs. long pulls and satin vs. mirror finish. The Navy knife IS the short run of this group. Of course, I could always be proven wrong.

Personally, I'd love to see another run of 15's with a single spear long pull..... I just pray they put end caps on it!

My dream 15 is actually a single one arm Northfield, with end caps, snakewood covers and a bail. Not exactly the most popular blade shape, but since we're dreaming... :D. Heck, I'd settle for a spear long pull in this configuration. I keep scratching my head, wondering why no one has commissioned a Northfield 15 yet.... the rope knife doesn't count!
