Lets talk GEC!

Now, here is an honest dealer with a good idea!

BREAKING NEWS! For BF insiders only!!!

OK, I may have overstated, but if you want to know where to find some great, short run examples, try the GEC Rendezvous in August. They always have some special items available for purchase during their open house - plus you get a tour!

Oh how I wish I could make it to the rendezvous, but present circumstances just won't allow it. I know all of you who go will have a great time.

In the meantime, it's nice to see the return of this tang stamp!

Oh, stainless 15s. They will vanish quickly I'm sure!

getting too serious here, perhaps we should take this conversation offline...

Stop stirring the pot. GEC can do whatever they want. They can send their knives to whatever distributor they want. The distributors can sell those knives however they want. If they all wish to create a little mystery and frenzy over them, so be it....

Or maybe you're creating a conspiracy where no conspiracy exists...

If you want me to stop Jake, OK, I will. And who doesn't love a little mystery...LOL

Oooo pretty! :D

I agree that these will probably fly off the shelves. Would have loved to see them with long pulls like the Charlie SFO rope knives, but as I understand it they can't do long pulls on stainless knives with their current set-up. The stainless blade blanks are waterjet cut while the carbon ones are stamped out. The long pulls are added during the stamping process whereas the nail nicks get cut in a separate process.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, of course. Wouldn't be the first time! :o

Ok gang lets tone this down a good bit. If there is no inclination to do that, then it would be good to take things privately.

I think you're right Phill, couldn't say where but I'm sure I've read that before too. I think they'll be great - not my cup of tea but I know there have been loads of peeps clamouring for more acorn options... So are they really gonna skip the acorn shields? Such a pity.

I had a quick browse through the pics. There sure are a heap of interesting and beautiful SFO knives. I agree with people's frustration when the nicest examples are so difficult to buy. I think GEC is listening to us, so I will add my support for those asking for regular production runs, getting sent to regular dealers, to match the quality of the SFO's.

I would love a nice 15 in stainless but I am not interested in the Navy knife style. A 2-blade spear or clip main with pen or coping secondary in SS with elk handles and the acorn shield would be ideal for me. 15, 66, 68, or 77 pattern, any of those would work for me.

I'd be all over one of those! I think that the acorn shields on elk covers are just stunning and I missed out when some patterns carried these a year or two ago. Stainless spear with coping setup would suit me just fine! 👍👍👍

I pre-ordered the stainless navy knife just cause it was stainless and wanted to show my support for this steel. Doesn't seem to be as popular as a 15 or 77 ,but it's the one folder GEC decided to bring out in stainless after a hiatus, for what ever reason. If GEC continues with more stainless in the more popular models or even a new one, for sure I would be on board.
Hoping they keep the acorn shield also.

Thanks, Gus. Good advice which I trust will be heeded.

Agreed, RIP acorn shields! :(

I thought (from very little information, and could be wrong) that the Squirrel etch was retired (2014), but not the acorn shield.

I know that it will not be used in this run of Navy knives. It was used in 2015 on the run of 63s Mako, and on runs of fixed blades.

I hope it's not gone forever.

If I Remember correctly the NAVY knives will have a hotdog shield, think I read that a while back. I also saw in the production pics #14 boys knives in yellow heart wood, looks like nice stuff. I'm not positive but I don't think it's been used before by GEC.

I saw the yellow heart wood also. I wonder what kind of wood it is? It looks almost too light. Hopefully it will look good finished.
