Lets talk GEC!

What happened to the "mystery Northwoods"? Did I miss something?

ETA: And I was just reminded by perusing the trading post...whatever happened to American patriot acrylic? Both the handle material and blade etch on those was awesome.

Derrick will there be other Micarta options or only the Denim and Black Linen? The video mentioned the linen, micarta and denim micarta on top of stag, giraffe and mammoth. Would you be able to tell us the price points so I can make a decision =)

Thanks

I saw the yellow heart wood also. I wonder what kind of wood it is? It looks almost too light. Hopefully it will look good finished.

I found "Barlow bolster" to be the most intriguing tidbit on this photo.... none of the illustrations include a #14 barlow.... hmmm...

Esky Zulu! Looks sweet!

This new 14 pattern would be perfect for a boy's knife chain, a retention feature sometimes seen on old boy's knife patterns.

The yellow heart wood is called Amarello. It is quite yellow, and darkens slightly with age, and is generally lighter than Osage.
The small planks it came from were several years old, and quite pleasingly mellow with interesting grain that resembles some Ivory I have seen.

I was chasing some cows and calves around my grandpa's old barn and marveled at some of the old wood, variety unknown. My dad and I just used some new Osage orange posts to brace up the east side, which was collapsing.

As we were working I occupied myself by thinking of what nice handle scales the barn wood might make, especially pieces that have scratched hundreds of bovine backs.

Was looking at the 'What's Happening' section...That Snakewood SFO Talon for DLT looks fantastic with the oak-leaf shield, really goes with wood handles. Too bad they're all spoken for, well I've used my knife-money this month so it could never be, but that shield...:D:thumbup:

The folks at GEC are killing it on this project. The shield looks great and I think we have a nice assortment of materials. GEC Pics for those that haven't seen them

Beautifully done, I had a good assortment of the original talon run, and I just found the talon-spear to be my preference. To each his/her own. Those that prefer the Sigler wharnie, these are the cat's meow.

A while back he confirmed it in the "What makes a good traditional Barlow"thread. If my memory serves correctly he said initial thoughts were saw cut bone, some soup bone and some fimilar and new options in wood with our first hint being the that fine looking Amarello!
