Lets talk GEC!

Yeah when I saw that #15 TC Bolster my heart started pumpin lol. Oh well you never know like has been said there's still plenty of time left for surprise runs of who knows what :D

Just noticed the Barrel picture on GECs page is a touch closer down the hall and they are bringing the wood inside!

So it's beer barrel beer scouts, right? I mean, it basically has to be.

Sigh. Why does this always have to happen at the most sluggish part of my year? At least I know I can upgrade my "maybe" on the wooden beer scout...

Noticed a Tidioute #14 Barlow 2 blade on the production schedule, not an SFO.

Where?!? Don't you dare give me false hope.

There's no way I'm getting my hands on this SFO in any of the pants I was hoping for, if any at all (reckon a <25% chance if I manage to beg him for one...in person :o) at this point -- damn you, lolly scramble -- so I'm going to lock in a couple scouts on the frame that represents my favorite pattern eluding me twice. It'll be a bittersweet beer scout, but at least it'll be mine.

Holy mackerel! 34 different variations of the 14 on the production schedule. No wonder the 72's and Beer Scouts are so far out. I'll bet they make a few more variations than those listed as well.

Blink your eyes and they're gone.

I may need to get a second job. :(

Congrats to whomever suggested "Ragg Bone", since you're already getting a #14 Charlow might I humbly request that you consider giving me your reservation? :D

(I'm still going to try and needle Mr. C into a run of scratted #14 Ancients and then I'm going to reserve every last dang one of 'em. :grumpy: Except the ones r8shell wants.)

(Seriously, though, scratted #14 Ancients and I will love you forever. :D)

Anyone know if these 14's will be all steel?

I already reserved reserving them all. ;)

Very true that this is %95 SFO's but they are all the same knife in different cover materials which should really speed up production. I would be surprised if these are not completely finished in 6 weeks, probably less. On a positive note there Are so many options that almost everyone should be able to get a knife in a material they like with the vast majority of #14's readily available. We also get to wonder what else comes next besides the Boys Knives, Beer Scouts and #72's.

My memory is not what it once was, but seems like GEC limited us to one slab and only 50 of each single/double. So each SFO will take less than a day (less than 6 hours if history holds true). Also, 95% by variation - but not 95% by count. There will be many more general production made than SFO's.

It's good to see GEC making some more stainless knives, especially in patterns they haven't made them in yet. Any word on if/when they'll make some jacks in 440C? I'd love a #48 Jack or #15 jack in 440C. The only stainless jack I know they made was a #73 for Cripple Creek in 420HC. Everything else has been single blade, full double blades, pen knives, or cattle knives.

The 420HC doesn't interest me much. It's the same steel that everybody else seems to use.

But the 440C is delicious. I'm very happy to see them producing knives in 440C. I could get used to it very quickly.

At least one dealer (Gunstock Jacks) has said he will not be taking early reservations on the 14 Barlows. He told me he will be putting them up on his website for sale after he receives them. So everyone who thinks they have missed the boat, in fact, have not. Watch for them when they come out.
You may have to be quick though.;)

Thank you for the info Mike. That is some impressive production time! Hopefully knowledge of how efficiently they are able to finish a SFO will ease the mind of anyone who was worried that all the variations would take away from the possibilities of regular runs or other patterns. With each SFO only being 100 knives that essentially makes each one a short run, or what is now considered a short run correct? I had been told that the most recent short run of stainless #15's and #74's was also 100 knives in each cover material. Personally I think with the #14 being a new pattern and based off one of the most popular patterns it is a good thing to have so many options so everyone can purchase a knife of interest. I would rather see that than numbers so scarce that you feel lucky when you get one. It's the classic scenario of you give a guy a gold brick and he complains about how heavy it is

So it's official. The mystery barrel is from Barton 1792 Bourbon.

If this is being used on the Beer Scout run, they so need to make special Boilermaker shields.

It might be flying over my head, but you guys know that's the Pennsylvania Keystone, right?

Wait, you mean they don't call it the "Heritage Keystone" shield because it's a shot of Heritage Distilling Co. whiskey being dropped into a pint of Keystone Light beer?! :p ;)

Jake, I found the resemblence pretty funny. I've dropped many shot glasses into beer! Irish Car Bombs anyone!?

I like the way the burnt orange clips came out. Has anyone used 440c on food. Is there any chance of a patina? Or, could one force etch it?
