Lets talk GEC!

There's a few in the top row that look like the edge bevel is deeper... maybe the ragg bone doesn't show well in pictures..

Doesn't clear up my question, which is, "How is that any different from regular sawcut bone?"

Like any natural handle material there is a variance from piece to piece. Some handle slabs will show more of the "ragg" and some will show less. So far the very few pictures available show less. You are seeing pictures of one or two knives.

If you compare it to the other sawcut pics it looks like the cuts are deeper in the ragg bone and a tiny bit less regular. I think they both look pretty sweet.

Edit: Then again, the lighting is different for these two pics so who knows.

Do you have a link for these photos?

The GEC blog gets plenty of play in this sub and this thread in particular. Shouldn't be a problem. We love those photos. :D

One would think that they'd post a picture of one that shows up the difference between ragg and non-ragg, if for no other reason than to justify the name.

I think at this point GEC could offer up the TC Barlows sight-unseen and they'd still sell out instantly.

Lmao I didn't spit out any water but that one got me to laugh too. :D I just paid for my dark red Ragg bone or black cherry im not sure but hey it's just more to wonder about tell it either shows up or gets straightened out on here

I received my burnt orange bone 74 today and am very pleased. I didn't think I would like the jigging pattern at first but it is growing on me. The color was also a big question mark, and I probably would have called it "rotten pumpkin" or something else but I know that doesn't sound as good. I'm impressed with the fit and finish on this one. I have several GEC's which are very nice in that department but this one I think is the best. The blade rides the center of the channel when closed and is straight when opened. The spring is flush in all three positions. It has a comfortable pull of about 5 to the half-stop and about a 6 from there to the open position. This is my first GEC stainless knife and I think the timing is perfect. I know it will kick several of my 1095 knives out of my pocket, at least for the summer months. It's been running over 100 degrees here in muggy middle Tennessee for the last three weeks or so and 1095 and sweat don't mix very well.
Take care all, and enjoy your 74's,
Rick

Just got my 74 today (photo in the Mustang topic). The obvious conclusion is that Mike inspects each knife and sends me the very best one. :D ;) :p It's a very nice example of the pattern. Thanks, Mike! I looked at the innards and I'm not sure how some of you guys are getting the blades to rap the spring. Are you taking a running start when you close the knife? :p There's a fairly large amount of space in the well. If you GENTLY push the spine of the blade down, you'll see there's some elbow room. I'm very pleased with the fit and finish and mechanics. My only complaint is that I would have preferred a clip instead of a drop point but I knew that before I even ordered the knife. I haven't sharpened it up yet. But I have sharpened and used my 440C boy's knife and I've been very pleased with their steel. Hopefully we'll see more 440C from GEC.

I can't wait for beer barrel bear scout I hope the oak smells like stout

Tyler

Yeah, but if you get pulled over for speeding or something it could mean trouble! "No, no officer, it's not me that smells like beer, it's my KNIFE!"

Next thing you know, you're down in county...

Better just stick to the micarta!
