Lets talk GEC!

Nice Alan. I plan to put a new edge on my Stainless Orange Delrin 74 tonight. I'm not a big fan of drop points, but the Orange combined with the 74 pattern makes it pop!
all done

Dollar for dollar, the edc #74 in orange delrin may be the best GEC buy yet. Just one man's opinion. YMMV

Alan
Make that two men's opinion. (especially when you got some frequent buyer credits saved up donttellmywife)

one more action shot ;)

GEC had a lot of issues building the Texas Camp Knife due to it's complex construction and the resulting learning curve required by employees during production. In short, it was a PITA for Bill and I doubt we will see a four blade scout on the 35 frame. A three blade stockman and/or camp knife are both good possibilities though, I think. Perhaps a whittler and standard double end jack are in the mix as well, but the only thing for sure is the BF knife at this point. Things can, and do change quickly at GEC so who can tell?

I don't think a bail will happen, personally. Sorry Meako. ;)

My dear chap there is no need to apologise.:D

How do the blade lengths compare on the stainless #15s and #74s? I have a #74 but it is clip/wharncliffe

Well thanks to Augie and JBF this happened. After a long 2 year hunt I finally found one.

JBF Champlin Eureka Jack
-Blades made in 2013, constructed in 2016 recently as a parts knife
-East India Rosewood covers
-Gimp shield
-Steel bolsters/liners
-2 Cattaraugus rosewood blanks

I've always found JBF Champlin's SFO's to be some of the most period correct GEC's made.

Congratulations, Tim! She's beautiful (of course).

I think the JBF's are the nicest GEC's offered . I really like the details they put into the knives like " wrap around spring" on the coping blade , stamped blades ( past knives , I think ) and fancy shields . The packaging they do is great with the little extra stuff .I believe I read a somewhere here that GEC didn't want to do their sfo's anymore . Is that right? I hope not . This is where I'd like to see GEC's quality go. Not that I think their quality is bad now .

Very nice Tim, I would try to be first in line if they offered those up again. Probably the nicest overall package I have seen from GEC.

Is that a blade stamp or etch?

The Eureka is a remarkable pattern both in terms of its rarity and its usefulness, a great day in GEC's history when they produced these.

But that Champlin variant is glorious! Finest looking knife I've seen for months (and you get to see a lot of quality gear here :D ) The wood complimented by the impressive blades, the best shield of all for this pattern and beautiful Barehead. The boxing et al.is very attractive too, thanks for the photos. I'd really like to get one of these Chamlpins , and congratulations on your luck! It's my hope that GEC release some more Eureka including Spear single which I've been after for quite some time. This would make a beautiful pattern for a future Forum Knife: choice wood or smooth bone, that shield, single swedged Spear, handsome and different. What I particularly like on this pattern is the overall dimensions/proportions and the narrow bolster yet broad spear with fine handle ergonomics. Well done!

These were "offered up" again for sale last week. They are sold out now... there was a very small quantity of parts knives put together. I don't recall the exact amount, but I think it was a couple dozen available.

They've the wrap around spring on the coping blade for many of the other 92's offered as well. I do agree with the unique shield and stamp however. I've a bunch of ideas for the 'ideal sfo' in my opinion but they're rarely done so I resort to customs. The packaging is where the extra mile steps in.

Hey there Josh, it's an engraving actually. JBF Champlin had these engraved afterwards so they'll stay on even with the patina :)

I agree wholeheartedly with your entire description Will, very well said :)

Yes I will guarantee that is is one of the finest produced knives ever to come out of GEC. I was also was a honored recipient of this offer and quickly snagged this one as well.... I've owned a few hundred GEC at one time but have narrowed it down to just (5) today.

There were (15) pcs like this, one single blade, and one with the Catt. Factory handles on it... Thats it! Yes short run. Will never see such a sweet piece again with the history here.. TD

Yes Very Deep Etching/Engraving that can be easily felt with a finger.:) Almost appears to be burned in with an electrode...
