Lets talk GEC!

Something like.....

finish 14 pattern sfos

sfo for a member dealer here

72's

sfo for another member dealer

15's

BF knife maybe by October

But nothing is ever written in stone, and I may have forgot something, or something may be added. :)

Thank you! I know things change and nothing posted on the forums is confirmed. Appreciate the general heads up...

I am quite curious what those two labeled "sfo for member dealer" are. Have I just missed something?

Besides what Shaggy posted, there's been rumors of a fremont run for a long time. There's been some IG posts (from KSF) that are cryptic about the freemont. They imply something might come about with the freemont. I forget the exact wording, but it was something along the lines of make sure you're signed up for fremont updates.

Thanks. That makes sense. I had assumed though that the Zulu was going to be ksf's only GEC sfo this year. I know they said they were working with another company too, but they never specified on which model.

I hope the freemont (if it comes) is made by GEC. I don't recall exactly, I was thinking there was some posts a couple months ago about GEC limiting dealers to 2 SFO's per year. Hope the freemont is one of them.

The Fremont is coming out this fall. It will be made by GEC.

The knives we have made elsewhere will be new designs or ones that GEC can't produce.

I just did a happy dance and fist pump... Thank you for the confirmation!:):)

GEC had a lot of issues building the Texas Camp Knife due to it's complex construction and the resulting learning curve required by employees during production. In short, it was a PITA for Bill and I doubt we will see a four blade scout on the 35 frame. A three blade stockman and/or camp knife are both good possibilities though, I think. Perhaps a whittler and standard double end jack are in the mix as well, but the only thing for sure is the BF knife at this point. Things can, and do change quickly at GEC so who can tell?

I don't think a bail will happen, personally. Sorry Meako. ;)

Yeah. As a collector of scout patterns, I could tell that the Texas Camp Knife was a "learning experience". Certain aspects of the pattern, that are almost impossible to manufacture perfectly, were in fact almost manufactured perfectly. The fit of all 4 tools was nearly flawless, yet normal stuff, like a rounding of blade spines, was all over the place. But still, the Texas Camp Knife is the best made scout pattern I've ever handled. Even better than my WW2 Camillus Engineers knife, which was my previous benchmark.

But turning around that level of perfection in a smaller frame would probably be even too much for GEC. There are just too many crazy things going on with a scout, to manufacture one at the expected usual GEC quality.

A 3-blade model might be doable though. Something like a Cub Scout knife. Although ordinarily smaller than a standard scout, the feature set is better than a standard scout, if you ask me. A spear blade, and cap lifter/screwdriver, and an awl/punch. Both the awl and screwdriver have a brass liner lock, making it very safe to use. Of course, it has a bail, like any other proper scout knife. I'd be happy to send one to GEC if they were at all interested. It's a sensational pattern.

I hope they're interested, Buzz, sounds like a great pattern. That tool combo would be about ideal.

Andrea advises that they make a scout on a 3.5 or 3.75" equal end. :D

For the price these GECs are great! It's not a custom so I don't expect perfect QC all the time. I think with more QC comes a higher price. So I'm ok with the minor flaws. Doesn't bother me unless it affects the functionality of the knife.

I'm sure you have covers in mind, but wanted to pass along a vote for black camel bone. I always like the look of your black camel Northwoods and GEC SFO's!

Boy, I would sure like to see a Ram's horn cover on a Fremont. I'd jump on that for sure.

I would love a GEC cub scout minus the liner locks and with a lanyard hole so the bail could be optional.

Nice Alan. I plan to put a new edge on my Stainless Orange Delrin 74 tonight. I'm not a big fan of drop points, but the Orange combined with the 74 pattern makes it pop!

Dollar for dollar, the edc #74 in orange delrin may be the best GEC buy yet. Just one man's opinion. YMMV

Alan
