Lets talk GEC!

Augie, that's a gem. Thanks for the pics. I have an antique green bone all steel with a the coping in the way of the spear's nick. If I use it I'll get some nice patina and I'm positive I could pinch this blade open. This seems classy, great curves and intrigue. I could file the kick but I don't want to mess it up.

Enjoy that Tideoute. It looks like it's begging to be used. With micarta and endcaps it could take a beating and still show up to any party looking amazing.

The nail nick is pretty easy to get to on the Tidioute and the springs wrap around with the brass liners. It's such a graceful pocketknife.

This knife is an absolute grail of mine! Congratulations!

Does anyone know how difficult it would be to have someone swap out a pen secondary on an #85 for a bigger wharnie off of another GEC? Anyone have a best up old GEC with a wharnie blade in good shape?

Someone please step up and get this fella a #77 clip/warny barlow! He's a good guy, make his day!

How would I know that? Width of the spring?

That's what I meant. A lot of times the pen blade has a skinnier spring. That will make the full sized wharncliffe you are looking for tougher to find. If it's the same stock thickness as the main blade, it should be easier...

Otherwise, you'll need not only a donor blade but also a donor 85 spring or someone with some really good skills to cut and temper a new spring.

I've still been hoping that GEC would use the wharncliffe from the coyote for secondary blades on some upcoming models replacing pen and coping blades. I think it would be especially cool to have a clip, pen, wharncliffe whittler

Last Rodeo, I actually picked up a 77 NF barlow with fill wharnie and clip recently and love it. It just makes me want a similar 85 with the fat spear and wharnie though.

Looking at the spring on the 85, the secondary is thin. It's even more than than my 92. Hmm, the mission continues.

Dear GEC, make a run of these.

I had a talk with Evan some time ago about a similar project, back when he was mainly modifying knives. He had told me that pulling a blade from one frame to put on a different frame didn't usually work out. The action just didn't line up and work properly. My guess is that you'll be stuck waiting for GEC to make a run of 85s with the secondary that you desire or going custom. On the plus side, if you're a delayed gratification type this knife will be all the sweeter when you finally do obtain it.

They are not actually whalers that is a 46 model. Same frame but differing main blade. Did not make it to the rendezvous this year but was able to grab a 45 from GEC direct. That bone is something else. Really like all the bone on the 45's shown above.

Got me a leftover Rondevous 92 coming. Good thing I didn't hesitate though or I be ***. Looked this am and they are gone at the dealer who had them. LOL

Ah man! I had no idea they were available at a dealer! I traded my 92 jack a year ago and have to say it's my single biggest regret in my knife collecting career. Nor only is it an attractive frame but the spear main coping blade secondary combo is perfect for my needs.

92 Eureka is probably my favourite Jack. I like the proportions, small bolster and wraparound spring, blade pairing, and the simple all steel 4 pin Tidioute without a shield. Really like to see another batch of these on general release or Talons in Spear this time.

Well that's what I get for not reading all the way through that newsletter this morning.

Will Power, that's an excellent example you have there. Good looking knife!

My most used knife GEC 99.I don't see many Picts of these but I really like it. The 99 is a light carry and a very functional blade.
