Lets talk GEC!

The new northfield 72 in Blackwood is up on GEC.net, and it's spicy. Wish I was in a position to buy!
That is spicy. I'm wishing the same. I usually prefer the aesthetic of the Tidioute line, but that looks great with the long pull and cloud shield.

Can't wait to see what these new clips on the #77 run will look like!!!

Brett gave some great info. I'll pile on as well.

African Blackwood is actually a species of rosewood, and the two behave similarly. The African Blackwood knives I've handled have a smooth, resinous feel to them, maybe a little more so than the Indian rosewood, though I'm not sure I've encountered that species. Either way, AB is tough stuff, and some believe it was the original "ebony" the Egyptians used.

I have two of the 77s on pre-order, and I have 2 of the Beer Scouts on pre-order. I'm excited for both, but I gotta say I've hardly been able to contain myself waiting for the Beer Scouts. Seeing Beer Scouts in the general forum is what got me looking here on the porch. Now this is pretty much where I spend my time. The Beer Scout is where my traditional love affair started...can't wait to have a couple in my collection. Seriously, popped a cap on a nice IPA with my SAK this evening, but I couldn't help but wonder if it would have tasted better had a Beer Scout been used to lift the cap...looking forward to testing my theory.

The recently released GEC 72s look great. Am trying to decide between the Tidioute Grizzly Bear cut bone or Indian Rosewood OR the Northfield African Blackwood. Any difference in terms of durability/feel in the hand or collectability?

Thanks.

I have an African Blackwood 72. It is my first ever GEC and I have bought about 30 since. Surprisingly, it is still my favourite. The simple lines and clean profile are a design classic. I have just ordered another in the northfield line, it will be interesting to compare them.

NEW PRODUCTION SCHEDULE IS OUT!!! Damn it! The 15's before the beer scout...:(
The 35's sound awesome! Might try and pick one up!
Now I'm gonna have to talk myself out of a 15's and have to wait on the Beer Scout!

35 Half scout! YES!!!!!
Caplifter on the Northfield version, fingers crossed!

It's the 15 with cap lifter. Isn't that the beer scout?

The 15 Boy's knife with caplifter is essentially a beer scout without shield or bail. So, sheepfoot and caplifter, no shield (I guess), no bail, different cover options.

I think its the #15 boys knife, it is the shieldless cap lifter with no bail. The beer scout has the shield and bail. Technically not a beer scout. Just prefrence. But I'm sure I will end up getting a 15 though.

Ugh, I wish I didn't like so many different patterns. I need to be more selective in what I like. It seems to be getting worse. Never was interested in the 72's until this round. I'll probably pick up one in rosewood and maybe one in blackwood.

I really love the satin finished blades on the Northfield knives so naturally I like this blackwood 72 coming out.

Dang, no bone linen micarta listed on the 77 barlows. I guess I have a TBA reserved currently. I'm sure it will be nice regardless.

Hey man, it could be worse. All of my favorite GEC's came out in 2012, and I bought my first one in 2015. :(

Now I'm trying to play catchup.

I do like the satin finish, but the Northfields seem to me like they should be high polish..
I thought I saw somewhere that the Blackwood 72's where polished blades.
