Hi everyone, I just purchased an interesting piece. Its a Northfield 77 Washington jackknife. Whats odd to me is both the tube and knife is numbered 772215. But its a single blade spearpoint. I understand the number code, but I`m no expert on GEC. Anybody have an idea how this came about?

Perhaps your knife was modded by someone. I am not aware of the 77 Washington Jack being sold in a 1-blade configuration.

Can we see it?

I once received a smooth bone 85 in a tube marked for a micarta knife. But then again, it didn't have the wrong number of blades.

Yeah they were all 2 blades as the serial number denotes. Someone had the pen blade removed (unless it was the HJ, and the punch was removed).

Sounds like a modified knife to me. A good mod though!

I have a clip washington jack with the pen removed. Previous owner had it done but it's a perfect mod, makes for a wonderfully slim carry!

That pretty much looks like mine, but I have a spear point. Same blood red covers. Seller said knife was new in tube, but who knows.

Where to purchase CC's SFO? I have not found it anywhere aside from this mention.
Hi Carlw if your referring to the #35 C.C. S.F.O. there all spoken for as far as I know. The older one's you need to hunt for. The next ones you need to watch this and other GEC threads for. :D

very nice! most times the tiny pen blade is useless and just adds real estate. currently sent a 77 to have the pen removed as well

That is very obviously not new in tube. I would be inclined to send the seller a letter letting them know of their mistake.
It's a neat mod, but that is deception or best case scenario he didn't know what he was selling. Ignorance, however, is not an excuse.

If the seller was selling a knife which he purchased and which he had no idea had been modified what has the seller done wrong? If he bought the knife but was ignorant of the fact the knife had been modified then how is that deception, fraud or a misrepresentation? Ignorance in this situation IS an excuse.

I've got a buddy at work who was buying up case knives and is now into GEC, but that's about it. It seems harder to discover fellow traditional knife person than modern pocket clip guys. I usually carry one of each and tend to spot pocket clips when I see people carrying.
I work on an army installation and many people carry modern folders, high dollar ones too, and they carry them at the uniform store, main Px and the Brigade Quartermaster store on post. But I never see traditional folders there.

In Lebanon 25 miles away where I live Case knives rule.

I would like GEC to make a stainless whittler. I've noticed they have made a few more stainless knives, 15's, 74's ect. A whittler variant would be a nice addition to my GEC whittler collection.

Okay, I will admit that I'm making assumptions about the situation, but it is the sellers responsibility to know what they're selling. Brand new(or new in tube) are pretty strong words, words that should not be applied to just any knife that is shiny and "looks" to be unused. If you are going to make such claims, than you should know what constitutes brand new in that particular case. Ted had started a good thread in general about this very topic(or close anyways).
I should probably stop there.

Just got this one in the mail today! A big thank you to RCMAZ for contacting me on the WTB forum section recommended to me by Arizonaranchman. RCMAZ offered up a gorgeous unused GEC 77 Barlow in Dark Chestnut Brown. This is the knife listed in my signature. He even included a copper Molon Labe challenge coin and leather pocket pouch along with a very nice personal note. What a fantastic knife and I can't speak highly enough about the good folks like RCMAZ on this forum.
