Lets talk GEC!

While I don't care about this discussion, I do feel that it is important to note that Jake is hardly "inherent(ly anonymous)" or "disconnected".

I also vote that Bob should get one. :D

Again, you leave out the central point. The Lanny's Clip is an example of a thought pattern, or knife type, not he thought pattern itself. For someone who doesn't want to create animosity, you do a pretty good job of it. You're too clever in framing your thoughts to make distorted points to be stupid. So I must conclude that you just like to create strife and discontent, without regard for accuracy or the people you talk about. Existing in an online forum, with it's inherent anonymity and disconnectedness from reality, is a perfect setting for you. Kind of a hollow existence though... I'm sorry about that.

My understanding of your comments in the video and here is that you wanted GEC to copy the Bose Lanny Clip for cheaper than Case and Tony sells them. The relation of "thought pattern" and "knife type" is just a grammatical detail.

But there's a knife that came about oh gosh 25... 27 years ago....that really led me to try to do this special factory order. You guys know this knife. The pattern invented by Tony Bose of Shelbourne Indiana. The Wilfred Works. This is a clip pointed single bladed medium trapper frame that Tony came up with for one of his buddies. His buddy was named Lanny. It is the Lanny's clip of course. This is the limited production Case Tony Bose production model. A Tony Bose custom in this pattern is going to run oh 2 to 3 thousand dollars. The Case/Bose collaboration in 154 cm steel and all stainless frame I think in this trim with the with the jigged bone covers... you know they're new in the mid 400s you can buy them. You know if you really hunt you can buy them for 300 on the secondary market but I really didn't see anyone making this knife or something similar to it with the same thought pattern in a knife people could afford at lets say $100 to $125 knife.

So, how bout the grinds on GEC new ones. It's been a while since I've bought a new one. Are they coming any sharper out of the tube?

Rob, I'm sure that you've spent a lot of thought, time, energy and money to bring light to your SFO. Even though I may not be able to get my hands on one, I do appreciate that you are having this made. It sounds to me like it's a knife that you are very passionate about and GEC is the right company for making sure that passion shines through.

It's unfortunate that your integrity has been dragged through the mud here today. I never got the impression that you were trying to hawk your knives here either. I don't really know anything about you other than a couple of videos I've watched. I don't know Bill Howard either, but everything I've ever heard or read about him tells me that he has a very high ethical standard. I'd say that standard shows in the knives GEC makes as well. That being said, I believe tht if Bill thought for one moment that there was any questionable ethical issue in making this knife, he wouldn't do it. That's good enough for me.

Rob, I hope that this experience doesn't discourage you from possibly commisioning any more SFO's with GEC. We all already know that this one is an instant hit.

They have been so-so on the Beer Scouts that I've received. Some unevenness, some not-so-sharp, some fine. I just assume that it's going to be a crap shoot when it comes to (relatively) mass produced, hand-sharpened knives.

Brett Be able to tell you when my Crown Lifter arrives, been quite a while since I got a new GEC but I sense an improvement in sharpness. At least they're not 'copying' that idea from Queen.....a bluntness detail..;)

OK guys, and you know who I mean. Enough is enough. If you want to duke it out, do it outside this forum.

You always said you weren't a big fan of the Knife Forums on your videos Rob im sure this experience isn't helping your opinion much. Great SFO I hope you make another sometime in larger numbers :D Merry Christmas

It's amusing that somebody who rails against Chinese knockoffs in his videos then uses the Orwellian term 'thought pattern' when he does a similar thing to line his own pockets.

Arent all these reproductions of traditional patterns ultimately knock offs? Charlie's latest barlow has a feature he copied from an old knife and no-one is giving him grief in fact they all love it!

Thanks Rob for all the enjoyable videos keep them coming and keep those knives coming too!

I just can't leave without complimenting you on your choice for an avatar. The "Bewildered and Clueless Mongo" is right on the money, Norcaldude! Brilliant!

I really enjoy the traditional subforum. It has always maintained a level of integrity in civil discussion and it generally lacks the personal vitriol that often plagues other areas of bladeforums. That being said, this thread is for the discussion of knives made by gec.

This thread is relatively long withstanding and in the interest of it not getting locked, we'd appreciate it if you all will continue conveying your relatively strong opinions of each other via pm, email, or in the feedback subforum.

I believe I speak for most of us when I say that we porch dwellers enjoy everyone participating in intelligent discussion and we don't want anyone to be excluded, self imposed or otherwise, due to hot tempers and excitement. Opinions are one thing, personal attacks are another.

Anyone have an idea when the #13 is coming? It's still not on the production schedule and I'm jones'n for a "clerk knife". I'm hoping the handles are as they were represented in the sketch.

Anyway.....

My Crown Lifter came very sharp & with an even grind. The Beer Scout came just as sharp, but with about a 3/8" area of uneven grind close to the pivot. It's not noticeable until you look at it closely in the right light. It's not a big deal & I can live with it.
