Lets talk GEC!

That's a beauty Buzz

TheApostleP, The sketches from GEC would make a good post. I'm not sure if GEC even has them up for their own run. People are asking about the full flat grinds and swedges.

Really intrigued by the jigging on the DLT SFO...plunked down my deposit, as these look sweet. Nice color on the dye as well, and I have always been a fan of a drop-point blade.

Does anyone know if this jigging pattern has been used by GEC before? What would you call it? Someone said "basket weave", which seems appropriate.

That autumn bone looks great doesn't it?!

It does. & Oh man. That orange camel bone. That's going to look awesome with the oak leaf shield.

Seconding the thanks for the info on swedges.

Got my first TC clip point. Two in my collection of "Charlows" so far. Pictures will come on Saturday when it arrives. :D

Ratbert, I think that's generally referred to as horse cut jigging.

I agree Bob, if I'm looking at the same SFO that GEC termed Autumn Leaf, it looks like this Acorn shield fixed I have. The colour is of course different but the jigging is the same. I like that SFO, has plenty of lighter patches for contrast, the Oakleaf mates very well with this bone too.

Thanks, Will

I wish GEC would announce the color of the smooth bone for the DLT 74. Got one reserved along with the snakewood. Both the other 74s look great so far!

The sketches I have are the ones in the video. They were very preliminary (August), when GEC had just decided to run 74's with a muskrat clip, single blade. They were quite generic and would represent a FFG Tidioute with a drawn swage. I don't know if Northfields other than my SFO will use the same swage as my marked up drawing, or whether they'll be drawn, or cut swages that begin before the clip.

If anyone has talked with Jason at DLT, maybe they could shed some light.

Hey Rob is DLT doing the muskrat clip? I thought they were doing drop points and collector knives was doing the muskrats. I was able to pick one of each including your SFO so I'll post a comparison pic once all received.

Thanks, BigBiscuit & Will Power. I couldn't find any reference to it on a preliminary google search and couldn't find any other pics online.

I never really thought much about a jigging pattern, just, "Oh, that's a cool looking knife." Especially the historical significance of a pattern. I knew that I liked random patterns more and those that looked like they were done by hand, but never gave it a thought beyond that.

Researching and looking into different patterns adds a whole new layer to traditional knives that I never considered before. I'm excited about delving into this!

(Is this why people think we're nuts?)

Further clarification: I Talked with Mike today. The other #74 clips are indeed just regular production. Although he has an early reserve for them, they are not an SFO.

Ah ok. Makes sense. I'm stoked for all variations.

A 73 is 3 & 3/4 " long and a 74 is 3 & 7/8 " long
On the blade opening side of the handle the 73 has a hump in the sweep area and the 74 does not .

Thank you! I really want a single blade 73 and I thought the the 74 look real close.

I really do not think you can not go wrong on getting the 74 if you like the 73 . I personally really like the 72's , 73's , 74's , and 83's . All have the very comfortable feel in the hand for me.

Edit : I have some of each of them and my favorite is the 73 in Stag . Maybe these pictures will help some .
