Again thank you, Old Engineer, You have helped a lot. Now I gues I need to decide on if I pre order a 74 Mustang or wait and see if GEC does a run on 73's

Have you checked the inventory at each of the GEC dealers ?? There may very well be some single blade ones out there , especially the Cocobolo ones.

What is the difference between a 74 and a 73?

If you go to GEC's website, they have a 'collect by pattern' tab. In it is all of the patterns that they've run, although not every knife. Here's some examples.

I'm making a guess that the standard Northfield 74 that's upcoming will look like this knife, but with the clip blade only.

Here's a 73

Harry told you right. Can't go wrong with either of these IMO. They are very similar handles.

BTW, Harry, that's a fantastic collection! The chestnut on that 74 is outstanding!

The handle of a 74 is the same handle on a 47 but flipped.

The DLT 74's will probably be fairly similar to this 73, without the swedge.

Here's an almost finished DLT SFO. They're still accepting reservations on these. If you want one, I wouldn't wait.... I caved and got one for myself. :o

Edit: I forgot to mention, the 73 is also different in that it has what's called a 'square and clean' or 'square and flush' joint. This means that the blade tangs are flush with the end of the bolster. It doesn't make much difference in use, but it's an interesting aesthetic. The 73's are also known to be nailbreakers. The 74's I have tend to be a bit softer pulls.

One more thing.... the 73 is kind of like the 15 in that GEC runs them fairly often. The 74 on the other hand may not come around again for a long time. Food for thought.

Love the clean and square joint on the 73, you don't see those often made. I have no use for one but I like to admire from afar [emoji4]

Old Engineer, that is a very nice collection! Question for you (or anyone else)...are the 72 & 73 models prone to blade play and wobble? I have seen some nice 2 blade 73s and hesitated to pick one up due to this concern. Any thoughts?

Of the several 73 patterns I have both single and double blade wobble is not an issue. The only 72 patterns I have are from the run this year and they seem to be fine also. Some folks have mentioned some of the earlier 72's had a little play but I can't speak for those.
Merry Christmas all,
Rick

You fellas can see my single blade clip 74 on page 352 of this thread. That is what the SFO will look like.
Right here;

That sir is a very pretty knife. I tried to get in on the SFO but the best I could do was "standby" only about 15 seconds into the frenzy. I'm hoping the regular run will be close to as nice.
Also, I have to ask....I ran into the same avatar photo as yours on a cast bullet forum. Do you by chance frequent there? or is it someone else using the same photo? Traditional pocket knives and cast bullets are two of my weaknesses.
Merry Christmas,
Rick
