Lets talk GEC!

Oh, interesting. I thought the forum knife was supposed to have a nail nick instead. I am certainly not complaining, I like long pulls. What a cool surprise.
Just crossing my fingers that this photo represents the entire run, and not just a small subset.

The knives look great regardless, but I prefer the long pull if I had a choice.

Here is a side by side comparison. Maybe some will have the long-pull and some will have the nail nick. Last time they put out a TC Barlow in December of 2016 there were two types of bone jigging (peach seed and pony-cut).

Either one way works for me. Obviously the long pulls always look classy with any blade shape especially clip-point and sheepfoot blades. However, I like the idea of the nail nick on a TC Barlow. It would be a feature that would make it different from the previous versions.

Hmmm...I was too slow for this year's forum knife and was feeling kind of crumby about it. But I'm feeling slightly better now. While the factory pics make the knife look great, a standard nail nick would have made this run of TCs truly wonderful as there's never been a standard nail nick on a sheepfoot before. It would have been a first! Interesting because every other configuration has seen long pulls AND standard nicks before.

Oh well, they still look great. First time in micarta is notable! Maybe we'll see a standard nail nick in a couple of years (fingers crossed).

Well if you pull up the website now gec has the nail nick blades pictured with the bladeforum Barlow now . Lol either way is fine with me .

If you check the GEC website, it shows the blade with a nail nick... Just like the original description... I think it will be great.....

Ha! Interesting, so they do. Looks like they pulled the other pic too.

I think this is appropriate to discuss here but if not, I am sure I will be informed accordingly. I wanted to pose a question to those of you who have been following GEC for longer than I. It doesn't take a neuro surgeon to recognize that the #15 and #77 Barlows are immensely popular, even the #25s appear to be a close second. But does that popularity extend to the #15 Boys Knives or Regular Jacks?

I ask because I have been carrying my Case 31 paired with my Wright's Lambsfoot rather regularly and I am absolutely in love with the size and simple, but useful pattern. I imagine that the #15 isn't too different in dimensions and design unless you consider the second blade that is included in some of the variations. The regular Jack or boy's knife pattern is one I used to think would be too small for my needs, but I have found that to be to the contrary and now it has great appeal to me. So with that all said, it seems that GEC does frequent runs of these but do they get scooped up in the same manner as the Barlows do?

It used to be that when GEC did a regular run boys knife (15) alongside the Barlow, you could readily find them in dealer stock to peruse and choose at your leasure.

I sent you a visitor messag.

That pioneer bone #25 looks an awful lot like oily creek bone - I thought they were more different.

The pioneer bone does look a lot better than I thought it would. Very nice. But I cannot believe that I probably will not be able to get one. Buying these knives is like an eBay auction; you always seem to get screwed at the last second.

The single blade versions of the #15 Boy's Knives do go pretty quick - but of course molasses compared to the Barlows.

Just saw a single blade one arm jack pop up the other day, and thought I'd have a chance to consider it - but I blinked and it was gone. Plenty of two bladed ones out there though.

My #15 Navy knife is not for everyone, but it is the absolute perfect size - for me anyway. I've really enjoyed carrying it so far.
