Lets talk GEC!

Here is a side by side comparison. Maybe some will have the long-pull and some will have the nail nick. Last time they put out a TC Barlow in December of 2016 there were two types of bone jigging (peach seed and pony-cut).

Either one way works for me. Obviously the long pulls always look classy with any blade shape especially clip-point and sheepfoot blades. However, I like the idea of the nail nick on a TC Barlow. It would be a feature that would make it different from the previous versions.
Maybe this is the TC Barlow that is coming out and not BF Barlow?

I would venture to guess any variations of the TC Barlow that were seen pictured on the GEC website (other than the BF knife and Charlie's SFO) are going to be "Rendezvous Specials".

i don't have the right light for photos, but I confirm all of my blackwood tends to be smoother, shinier and blacker than ebony.

Here's my Ebony Calf Roper from this latest run. It's more brown than black but still a nice looking slab of wood. I've never owned an African Blackwood knife but none of the pictures I've seen of them were this far removed from the color black.

That's curious, as a good 95% of the African Blackwood I have handled were near black; with only discernible brown from time to time.

Mike, I think we are both saying the same thing. I just chose a strange way to say it.

How many are usually made for a Rendezvous Knife?

Someone more with more knowledge that me will surely be along give a more complete answer, as the little I know is only from what I read on BF.

From what I understand, besides the Rendezvous knife, they sell "parts knives" of which there is a very limited number.

I'm probably not the most knowledgeable either, but I believe last year they made 49 of the "official" rendezvous knife. I think they sold 16/16/17 each of the three days...I know I'm close, but may not be exact.

The "parts" knives vary, but I enjoy those more than the rendezvous knives sometimes (Aesop referred to this as sour grapes). These could be as limited as 1 total, but most have more made than that - still not a whole lot though. They also don't include these on the production totals...last I checked.

Ebony has variations depending upon the quality and species. Good Blackwood is very dark in comparison to most Ebony used in production knives . Really good Ebony has fine grain, is very dark, it looks like it came off a Steinway.

I was always under the impression that a spear tip should have a continuous belly from the flat to the tip.

The ones shown above are almost like a tanto tip. Plenty of straight edge on the tip and only a small section of belly...

I'm inclined to agree. I know that a lot of folks like this type of spear blade but I'm not one of them.

Did anyone else notice the little fixed blade next to the stag 25s?

Is it possible they don't have the final edge yet?
