Lets talk GEC!

I'm very excited about this announcement, as I've been waiting for an American Jack! Reserved a two-blade model in smooth white bone.

I've been waiting for that announcement! I learned of this through the grapevine, I'm excited for the return!

Colin, is this the pattern you mentioned a few weeks ago that you overheard a discussion about at The Rendezvous?

Will this be a 2017 release?

Hello, can someone please share pictures and thoughts of #78 American Jack. Not a pattern that I a familiar with but very interested.

Titan,

Keep your eye on the Exchange as there are some great deals to be had there just slightly above your range. The recent #13 run of Congress knives are very nice and demand seems low as I have seen these going for deep discounts. All feature either wharncliffe or sheepsfoot main blades.

Pre-ordered a 78 as I do not have one and the single blades look like my style. They look like 77s and are the same size closed length, I see that sometimes GEC has two similar paterns with numbers off by a digit with different configurations ie 53 & 54, same knife but one has a half stop one doesn't. I that true of the 77 & 78?

Is someone able to elaborate on what the difference is between the 77 and the 78? I am looking at them side by side on GEC's site and I cannot see any discernible difference. Same size, same shape, similar configurations, etc.

That being said, this is actually the first time I have put in for two of the same knife. I put in a sure for a single blade in Ebony and a 2 blade in Cocobolo. That way I get to experience the pattern in both the Northfield and the Tidioute trim, the size difference between a single and a 2 blade, and I get two different woods. I may adjust accordingly if they decide to do some sort of Red Bone for one of the Jigged options but we shall see.

The release of this pattern has most certainly made it to where I will be skipping the 81 release. It doesn't excite me much and I would have only picked one up if the release afterwards was equally uninteresting. Which has just proved not to be the case. I may regret passing on the 81 once I start seeing production and owner pics but I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

im so glad they are coming out in single blade, shame they are not clip but atleast ill have my single blades. I remember passing on several 78s during the rendezvous because they had the pen blade.

I have not checked to confirm but I'm thinking that one had a rounded front bolster and the other is squared off a bit?

I actually really dig spear blades. Spears and straight edges like sheepfoots and lambsfoots are my absolute favorites. However, GEC executes their clip blades rather beautifully so though I generally do not prefer the clip, I would not hesitate to own one from GEC.

You are right! I just checked, they do have different bolsters.
