Lets talk GEC!

For those who have both a #68 Pony Jack and the #66 Serpentine Jack - are these pretty much identical except for the slight serpentine bend on the #66?

Oh wow! Thanks, and I am now anticipating yet another GEC release. This is going to be a year that they capture a lot if my discretionary income it seems.

It is quite possible that they won't release it for some time, they have a pretty jammed production schedule as far as I know. Nice though isn't it, wish I'd bought two :)

I recently found a GEC in 440C with Primitive Bone in web and ordered it :D

Does anyone have some pics of this kind of material - just to shorten the waiting time.

This thread is almost on page 51 and I haven´t post once here... man man man...

It's unknown at this time if GEC will release pattern 13 this year. The pattern was developed to meet the specs of the 2013 BFC traditional forum knife. Currently there are no other Congress Jacks in production that I am aware of.

Yes same as the Calf Roper And Buckaroo. At first glance they almost look the same.

I believe the Pony Jack doesn't have half stops on the blades. Not sure if the 66 does.

No half stops on the 66 either.

I really hope they do make a regular production rung of the #13 after getting to handle one of the 13' forum knives last month. I liked it much more than I thought I would. That is one loooong sheepsfoot blade with a ton of cutting edge!

Which pattern Andi?

I don't think I have a pic of just the #66 and #68 together but the 2 ebony knives below the River Valley Green #66 are #68s.

Are you sure its Primitive and not Pioneer bone Andi? Here are the numbers for GEC #73s from 2012 (unless more will be added as additions to the 2013 list when its released)
735212EC
American Walnut Wood 25 pcs. serialized 24 pcs. no serial numbers
American Elk 25 pcs. serialized 25 pcs. no serial numbers
Pioneer Bone 25 pcs. serialized 22 pcs. no serial numbers
If its Pioneer bone, then I hope these pics help :)

Pioneer Bone it is, actually. Sorry for the incorrectness (it was a long day at work)

Thanks for the pic, Trand! That´s the very same knife I bought and it will take still about one month to arrive here. I can hardly wait to handle and fondle it... :)
I´ve heard about their superb HT on the 440C so it will be an EDC knife... a nice long spey blade is fine for EDC tasks.

Thanks for the pics, Trand! Nice grouping of knives there. The 66 and 68 do look an awful lot alike. I've got the Pony Jack and was pondering whether to add a #66 when they come out, but it might be too much overlap. I think I'll save up my pennies for the forum knife which I'm hoping will turn out to be a GEC 2-bladed jack.

As far as I'm aware, the only real difference between the 68 and 66 jacks besides the curve is that the 68 Tidioutes have long pulls, clip and spear, whereas only the Northfield 66's got the long pulls (par for the course). I will comment that I have a 66 serpentine jack, and find that I like how the curve fits in my hand compared to some of my straight-handled knives. It's very comfortable, and for some reason it seems to mitigate the discomfort of having to grip a proud tang while using the knife (an issue I've encountered with jacks before). YMMV, of course. I'd probably be just as happy with a TC pony jack. Those long pulls and rust red slabs are awfully handsome! :D

Only the Tidioute pony jacks had long pulls. The Tidioute white owls and buckaroos were nail nicks as per Tidioute norm :)

This may not be the best place for this but it feels somewhat relevant, if not feel free to remove.

For someone not new to traditional knives, but new to identifying and collecting them; is there a guide anywhere to identify the GEC's (or others) by their number? I know a few of them but would love to learn more.
