Lets talk GEC!

From the wd40.com website:
What a Fish story!
Myth: WD-40® contains fish oil.

Fact: Consumers have told us over the years that they have caught some of the biggest fish ever after protecting their fish hooks and lures with WD-40®. We believe this legend came from folks assuming that the product must contain fish oil since it appears to attract fish. Sorry Charlie®, it just ain’t so.

I stand happily corrected. Thanks ;) :D

Bullnose on deck!

I got my first Beaver Tail in today and I noticed something. The shield is upside down, or rather the opposite direction of other shields.
Just an interesting observation I thought I would share.

I remember a whole thread on the orientation of shields, but I'm too lazy to look for it.
Maybe someone will be interested enough to search it out.

We must be pretty close to a new production schedule being posted. Any guesses on what awaits is ahead for the rest of March and April? Will it be the new 44?

I would look forward to a regular run of 14's with a clip/pen combo. I would prefer an end-capped version but barehead would be fine too. At least there probably wouldn't be a scramble to get one as I"m sure there will be with a barlow style. Also I think I saw mention of some 77 yankee jacks.....would love to see this. Although I may be in the minority here I like the 77 jack better than the 78 jacks that were just run. Previously I would have said I liked the secondary in front but with the recent Northfield 78's the secondary in front covers up that nice long pull on the main and on my examples of the 2-blades makes the main hard to get to.
I guess time will tell,
Rick

I'd love to see some 77 jacks, with the same blade configuration as the upcoming barlows. I have a green bone two-blade jack from the last run of them, and it's definitely a keeper.

I want another Dixie run as I want a user one!

Stag is out because they won't put shields on (pinned or glued;)) Natural Micarta, Osage Orange, Ivory Bone, Peach Seed Jig in a light bone. ANY of these would do:cool:

Be nice to get another Eureka/Viper run or a Conductor. 15 in all forms need a rest in my (jaded) view :D

I’d like to see a run of #21 Bull Busters again. I think this upcoming #71 Bull Nose run will be the third since I started collecting GEC knives, but unless I missed it entirely, I don’t think they’ve made any Bull Busters in that time.

Really glad to hear that you’ve got a solid way ahead. If your going to do some light sanding and polishing I’d recommend trying a “tropical shine four way colossal buffer” which is used to finish acrylic nails in beauty salons. Sounds crazy, but I once chipped a nice bone knife, filled the crack with acrylic and used my wife’s buffer to sand and and then buff/ shine the repair. About a month later I was looking at GEC’s “ What’s Happening” section and low and behold right there in the production pics was a tropical shine buffer next a pile of knives in finishing.

I think, but am not sure, that they're going to sand it and send it back. If not I'll definitely try one of those. I know my girlfriend has one of those. I've actually wondered about using it to polish acrylic! So that would work to bring back the shine on acrylic knives?

Glad to hear it. Some oils aren't safe for some hydrocarbon-based polymers. Think of the warning labels on certain items regarding oil-based substances in the family planning section... That said, this would be the first I've heard of a mineral oil affecting GEC's acrylic, and WD-40 is basically aerosolized fish oil, but it's cheap enough and you get the added benefit of the spray can to clean out your joints!

I have found mineral oil does a good job of cleaning out joints and the great thing is that it's food safe. But I'll definitely be trying out WD-40.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but WD-40 is about one-fourth mineral oil. I've been using it on all my knives for years.

Man, so this confuses me. Maybe 1/4 mineral oil is little enough that it won't do the same damage?

I can't speak for the TC #15s but I have it on very good authority there will be a run of TC #14s and the blade will be a clip.:D:cool::)

Oh good news!

I had been under the impression "I dont know where from" that GEC pinned the shields on its knives. Is this something that has changed or am I incorrect? I do not see pins in the shields for the 43.

I believe some of the pins are pressed or welded on.

Pardon my ignorance Will Power Will Power ,
What pattern is a “Dixie” ?

The #82 frame, double spring with Turkish clip main blade / wharncliffe and drop point secondary, was called a Dixie Stock Knife. Absolutely fantastic knife.
