Lets talk GEC!

I would check Charlie Campagnas site. He is the guy running this SFO and happens to live in Canada. His site lists dealers.
Forgot we’re not supposed to discuss the buying process. At the risk of shooting my self in the foot and getting locked out of their early reserves, I’ll go ahead and say that, I have seen Gunstock Jacks, and I think (removed non paid dealer reference)do them. You may want to check them out or email them.

Happy I was able to secure one. This may have already been asked but will there only be one cover option for the spear barlow?
Charlie said in a different post that yes there was only going to be one cover option but that sometimes gec throws in a small number of an unexpected one, like 50 or so. I’d expect only one option though.

Thank you for the reply. Hard to beat sawcut bone.

I wonder if the Rendezvous will have any parts #14s???? :D

They’ve been putting out some nice knives recently, or at least ones I really like. I think the parts knives and the annual rendezvous knife will be pretty good. I wanted to go last year but didn’t, have to try harder this year.

Congrats to all that landed one...I'm keeping my fingers crossed for one. This is the fun part!

There are lots of great knives and lot of great sharpening systems. But I have to say that a good quality sodbuster (GEC, Case etc.) and a Norton IB8 are traditional perfection, at least functionally.

BTW, this knife, for what it is, is super in almost every way. Except from th tube it had a very hard time cutting tomatoes. I fixed that.

Yeah, just kinda kicking myself I didn't put the clues together.
It's OK, I've got lots of other knives. :)

Hello there r8shell. I think I sold you my 2015 TC with a custom forced patina by yours truly on my very first knife sale if I remember correctly lol. :)

No, that wasn't me. Sounds like a nice knife, though.:)

The Norton IB8 combination India stone is my weapon of choice also, for GEC's and other carbon steel knives. It does a wonderful and quick job on 1095, producing a nice toothy working edge. If I need something a bit more refined, such as the coping or pen blade on a two-blade knife, I progress to a combination soft/hard Arkansas stone after I'm done with the fine side of the IB8. But main blades usually just get the India stone treatment.

Argh. Skunked. Ah well, the randomness is all part of the fun. I did manage to hang on to the first three though.

Lucky you! Would like to see a picture of all three together if you happen to have one handy. I'm missing one.. the smooth bone. I don't have a picture of my scratted with ebony, but here's the ebony with a 14 black cherry sawcut.

Is there a tutorial on posting pics somewhere? I haven’t done it in a while—since the system changes. I took some pics, but they are all too large to upload. I’m using iPhone if it matters, and am Gold so I should be able to simply upload if I can downsize them.

The quickest without explanation is to email them to yourself and choose a smaller size.

Is there anywhere that does that aside from CollectoKnives? They very bulntly do not ship to Canada.

Hang around here and make friends. There are more than a few people who would be willing to be a relay person for you. You buy the knife, have it mailed to a US address, and they'll forward the knife to you. Mike has also made mention of companies that may offer this same service.

Thanks, I didn't think of that!
I'll see what I can do in time
