Lets talk GEC!

Please bear with me here. For the longest time I could not seem to grasp why anyone would want a knife like the Bull Nose #71. I figured a knife of that size, a single blade, and that blade shape needed a lock on it.........now I can't seem to resist the urge to buy one in nifebrite. Is something wrong with me? :D

Maybe, but you're in good company here. I just got a 71 in Nifebrite and it's cooler than cool; it glows by golly. :D Thinner than all the other 71s too if that matters to you.

Actually yes it does. I am looking for a knife to fill a recently vacated pocket sheath that was made for a Northwoods burnside jack, and a thick knife will not fit it. Even a 2 layer SAK is too thick.

What's the pull and snap like on it? Pretty heavy and solid I hope? Must.........resist..........urge................to order......

How tall is the pocket sheath? The 71 is going to be longer than the burnside jack.

It's a pocket sheath designed to leave one end of the knife exposed. So a longer knife just means more of the knife will be sticking out. Here's a pic of it on the lower left. Made out of an alligator that I killed.

Come in on in! The waters fine!:D

The more I see of that Dixie stock knife, the more I really like it. All the blades sit so low to the frame and the combo of blades is a subtle, yet refreshing change. I like that micarta, interested to see the Northwoods finished versions.

Anyone have any more details on the #48 'Bird Knife?'

http://greateasterncutlery.net/blog/gallery/48-3/

Bob covered the steels and handles. I'm pretty sure these are going to end up with a hook like other "bird" knives. Imagine the below but curved. There's pics of similar knives. I also saw a youtube vid of how the hook works.

My guess is an improved trapper with one of those bird-gutting hooks as a secondary.

Thanks, that's what I was guessing as well. Similar to this Boker I have:

To be honest, I've never found those hooks all that useful for cleaning birds, but as an avid upland hunter and a big fan of the #48, I'm curious to see how these turn out...

Sorry Folks, Muskrat Clip Blade main blade and a bird gut hook secondary blade.

Watching this one also and the collector knives sfo. Would like more info on it.
Dave

Nothing ground-breaking on the sfo I am afraid. The #48 Improved Trapper is my favorite GEC knife to date, and especially in the blackwood. Thus, I am running them again, along with some abalone that I feel is perfect for this frame.
