Lets talk GEC!

Does any one know if GEC treats their ebony with any sort of stain or lacquer or sealant? I've been carrying one of the new 15 spears for a week or two now and the texture of the wood seems to have changed a little, becoming rougher.

I believe they soak all their knives in a liquid lubricant similar to wd-40 in part of the finishing process. Yours could be drying some.

Might be some of whatever finishing/polishing compound used coming out of the pores of the wood. Ebony varies a bit in density and grain.

I have 2017 TC Barlow in Ebony that I have been carrying in my pocket (no slip) for a few weeks. I also noticed a slight change in the texture of the wood. At least I know I’ve been coon fingering it too much! I’ll apply a light coat of mineral oil.

On a side note, we should be due for a GEC schedule update soon. I can’t imagine the remaining 15’s and the upcoming 44’ will take until September 11th to complete.

Will these be the next PPP's?

These 44s do look cool. Very similar to the iconic Queen and Schatt and Morgan gunstocks which are so prevalent. I wonder if they had a previous understanding with Queen to not produce the gunstock pattern? It seems coincidental that this run conincides with Queen’s closure.

Who knows if they were in touch with Queen.... I am looking forward to the 44 as well. Actually, I can’t wait for all that brass. I know some hate it but it’s never bothered me.

I acquired quite a few Gunstock knives in the past few years. On the small side for me but I love them nonetheless. Here’s a Queen with GEC’s other rendition, the 76. I must say that the 76 feels better in hand because it doesn’t have a squared end cap.

Is it correct there are no SFO’s for the gunstocks?

As an aside I wonder why GEC allows SFOs to regularly be more desirable than the standard patterns. Nice and interesting details - like Charlie’s bar shield on the current SFO #15 - don’t have to be limited to SFOs. I would like there to be more variations and limited releases among these big runs - particularly if the big runs are run in plainer materials (such as ebony, green micarta, antique yellow bone). Keeps things interesting and its a lot of fun.

I know this is somewhat off current topic, and I tried to search for an answer, but does anyone know what the thickness behind the edge of most GEC knives is?

I'm planning to get a handmade small Lanny's clip (for a great price) but it's .030" behind the edge. That sounds thick to me but idk how it compares to other traditionals. Wish I had calipers!

Does anyone know if GEC still does serialized runs? I honestly cant remember a run since Ive started collecting GEC a few years back.

I could be mistaken, but I believe that the recent SFO Whalers were serialized.

ETA: But other than that, about the most recent I remember is the beer barrel Beer Scouts from 2016, I think were serialized.

Yes, the AMKC knives were serialized xx-19

I will FINALLY be getting mine this Sunday. I was out of town for my fiancee's birthday for the last meeting where everyone else got their club knives. I can't wait to see it.
Haha, I've been wondering where your pics of that monster were. ;) Those really looked nice in GEC's photos.
