Lets talk GEC!

As I understand it, it is a normal run. So basically all active GEC dealers will get them. Not at all trying to push people away from CK, I've bought knives from Mike and had good service, but often in discussions it seems like people think his early reserve system is the only option to get these sought after runs.

I met the dealer through whom I buy most of my knives at the Rendezvous this year and as I suspected he seems like a really genuine and good guy. I am not sure if he's a paid dealer for this site, I'll have to check before posting any specifics. He doesn't use an online system, and I don't think he gets the early word on these like the bigger dealers (he actually said he often learns about runs by customers emailing him), but I am typically able to contact him and let him know which upcoming knives I'd like to get.

All I'm saying is that I guarantee you can still get an elk stainless #99.

I appreciate the comments, Logan. I have to remind myself sometimes that all is not for lost if I am unable to get in on a CK Early Reserve. I purchase most of my new release knives through him as his system works best for my needs, but I can often forget that there are other dealers who have the very same knives available.

I've never experienced GEC's Elk or their Stainless. I have used a #99 enough to know that I dig the pattern and I think one in Elk would be something rather special.

Oh my, I'm about to post a picture of a Case knife in this "Lets Talk GEC" thread BUT I'd like to see GEC manufacture a Sowbelly such as this Case Sowbelly.

Yes sir. That’d be mighty fine.

Great lookin' knife joeradza joeradza ! The 99's are very appealing. Lockbacks are not usually on my shortlist but I look forward to seeing everyone's pics when they arrive.

Got the txt that these were up for Early Reserve and hopped over with no intention of reserving one. Wharncliffe blade, lockback, and stainless steel quickly changed my mind. Interested to see what the Chestnut will wind up looking like.

Me too. I assume it won't be the "old barn chestnut," so I'm guessing more along the lines of GEC's typical chestnut.

Given the number of ways they've delivered chestnut scales in the past I can't hazard a guess. On a knife pattern called Wall Street I would expect something a bit fancy though.

Got standby, another great run. GEC must be listening to the customers. Stainless GEC's on the way.

Same for me. I like a clip point better, but can't help trying for a stainless. I doubt the standbys will work out on these, but if not, there's a few other places one may get lucky at. To be honest, I've got to sell some knives before I can justify buying any more!

My thoughts exactly.

I'm not too bummed about missing the ER on these, and probably won't be fishing for one elsewhere. I like the #99, but I honestly think I prefer the spearpoint Farm & Field version. Here's hoping they do some F&F knives with this run.

Correct, these are a general production run - a relatively small run for current times but generally available to dealers.

Most dealers now have some system for putting names on knives for customers. Getting most runs is just a matter of looking around and getting to know 2-3 dealers. Matter of fact the flippers probably get on every dealer list.

So, find you a good dealer you get along with - and let them take care of you. Although if you start telling everyone about your dealer, he may get to where he can't take care of you any more unless you get on his "inside track". ;)

As to this run specifically, they will go fast regardless of how the dealer allocates them - because they are a relatively short run of a popular pattern in a rarely seen steel for GEC. But at least now you have all been guaranteed to get an elk if you want one :D

Hoping for the same, I've been looking for a F&F version for some time.

Wondering if these are Tidioute or Northfield branded? Did jump in and reserved the TBD bone. Hope for a nice coloration and jigging.

Yeah, the “Dead Skunk” handles have had a few different looks over the past years, but these do look good.
