Lets talk GEC!

Anyone else want to see GEC do a lockback whittler? Preferably with a clip point main. I wonder if that's even a pattern they would consider. Does GEC have a set number of patterns or do they add to it when they feel like it?

Still rallying for a 440C 98 camp knife or cattle knife. Maybe in 5 years.
ABSOLUTELY

I think they know what patterns sell better than others and repeat those over time but even now they are putting out new ones (PPP's)...the 44 is a good example. I doubt they will do every possible combination that everyone desires but it is fun to see what's next.
The cool thing is that there are folks out there who can make you pretty much any knife you want. GEC spoils us by making really good knives for a, relatively, low cost but you are bound by what they offer.

Yeah I'm not opposed to custom knives just can't buy them like I can buy production pieces Of course you can get exactly what you want.

When I first got into GEC (not that long ago, about late 2014, I believe) there were a lot of patterns readily available that are quite coveted now.

The 82 Dixie Stockman comes to mind, as I was too short-sighted to have picked one up. Lots of good stag was available on that pattern.

Probably important to remember that, while large for GEC, the overall production is still quite small, and when they are gone (into the hands of collectors and users) they are not going to be made again in that configuration. It's nice for the dealers to have some stock on hand to sell to new GEC enthusiasts as well.
I agree 100% I only started collecting GEC knives in March of 2016. At that time there were GEC #25 Barlows/#16 Canoes/ #57 Gapetto Whittiers on several dealers websites. There was even the odd Grinling Whittier kicking around. In my limited experience it seems even the models that don't sell like hot cakes have the potential of being highly sought after once they dry up. AKA The Good old supply & demand factor.;)

It was nice seeing the Circle A Knives SFO #14 in Smooth Yellow bone with the Dimond shield being built. I'm just as excited to get that as my 2018 BladeForums knife.

I keep hoping GEC will do another run of #21 Bull Busters. I don’t know how long it’s been, a few years at least?
yes! Would be tickled to see one in wood. Say... ebony, bocote, cocobolo. Kicking myself for passing on the osage orange version.

Gotta say though I think the lock-back mud buster is a better knife.

I had one of the Mudbugs for a while, but the combination of a proud tip and blade rap (which prevented me from being able to drop the kick and alleviate the proud tip) kept me from enjoying that particular knife. I have several #71 Bull Noses and I love those knives, so I’m anxious to see GEC make it’s big brother again so I can get my hands on one.

I had a similar problem with a large Northwoods Madison Barlow. I sent it to a professional sharpener after two years of not being happy with it. No more problems.

So I may have a problem..... I just went to the GEC production schedule because I dreamed that it was updated with the 99s and 85s last night... Sadly it was definitely just a dream.

My hands are shaking from the stress involved with what just happened. Literally, minutes after the text everything was red. I am pretty sure I got in on a stag #85 just in the last seconds. I would guess that smooth bone version is going to be really nice though.
I'm not a big fan of the rat race but wanted to get in on one of Mike's reserves.

I’m super excited! I just happened to be sitting at my computer when the text hit. Perfect timing for me. Im so excited for 85’s.

GEC struggles with lockbacks and whittlers (they make them well, it’s just hard), so that sounds like Bill would lose a lot of sleep, lol.

Oh, and 85’s!!!!!! Bill said he’d never do Buffalo horn again, but my prayers are answered.

Yeah I wish he had kept with the lottery system the minute I see or hear of one it is gone. I will say I personally don't have much interest in the #85 so no loss here for me today.
