I can't say that I have ever been fond of the EO notch. Though undoubtedly useful for many folks, I have always found it to be aesthetically displeasing, messing with the lines of an otherwise perfectly shaped knife.
But, as I have found, my tastes evolve and things that I initially didn't like are showing up on my radar and I have come to the conclusion that I can't knock it until I've tried it. I used to harbor a rather staunch opposition to Stag as cover materials but it has become one of my top three favorites (Stag of the gnarly variety). Though I think the EO notch still doesn't suit some patterns, I think the #85 almost looks unnatural without one.
So with that said, I am happy to have the opportunity to check out this upcoming run of 85s. The Buffalo Bone is intriguing and the Red Jigged is, of course, going to be a classic. I didn't shoot for the Maple because I have been disappointed with Maple before but I likely will regret it, especially since Mike sourced the stuff himself and I have a lot of confidence in Mike's good taste. Though I have come to really like Stag, polished Stag is still not my cup of tea. Not yet, anyway. Baby steps...
