Lets talk GEC!

Probably not. I've had a bunch of "pinch-able" knives and I still use the nail mark. I can see how they are convenient for those that don't have any nails, but I still find the nail mark more reliable for opening my knives.

Ah, well as a persistent nail-biter, I like a pinchable blade. ;)

It's interesting that we're seeing a repeat of the corset shield. I would have thought this run would be different, maybe a federal shield or the bomb. I really like the corset on this pattern, so all's well. Just interesting.

A Federal shield is typically what I expected on this batch... but as I missed the preorder I will be satisfied with the pictures that the lucky buyers of this wonder will put online ;-)

I thought it seemed odd to not have a different shield this run too.

Propeller and Gimp styles look good on this pattern too, as does the Bar.

 :D

My personal preference is small shields, I see too many kids working with church youth that are always acting out "look at me", "look at me". That's what a shield half the length of the slab says to me - "my shield is bigger than your shield". The houndtooth/spear is about as big as I like; but federal/crest/badge and rounded bar shields are nice as well.

Nah, I just like the corset looks and proportion to the knife. We're working on a "circus clown selling balloons" shield for the next run.
Hey, now, I enjoy those realistic (as opposed to abstract shape) shields!!:cool::cool::thumbsup::D

That's disappointing. I hoped to see more food products to go along with the hotdog and banana shield. A full summer picnic theme would be great. Maybe a bag of chips or a hamburger shield. If we could get some condiments shields..ketchup, mustard, relish it would really improve the EDC experience for the hotdog shield folks.

I’m likely taking a break after I get my 14. I was wanting a small one, like a #09 but I think the 14 will fill that roll well. They’re not likely getting around to another #98 camp or what many of us are waiting for, a #35 camp any time soon so I think I’ll try and save some cash while I wait.

What I really want in the #35 is clip main with liner lock if possible, small wharncliffe,(not coping or sheepsfoot although either would be o.k.) caplifter, and awl. I have no use for a can opener. bail or no bail, doesn’t matter much to me. I’m good carbon or stainless. No hotdog shield,(not a hater, just have enough with it already) Jigged bone, smooth bone, bocote...

I am not too hung up on the shield choice. I wasn't around for prior runs of these 85s so having a different shield isn't really a need for me, though I can certainly understand why some folks would have that desire. I do like the looks of the Corset shield on this pattern though. I don't have any 85s yet and I do not have any knives with Corset shields so I see a win in more ways than one in the not so distant future.

I wonder if the Tidioutes will have a different shield choice. That might introduce some different flavor for some folks.

I'd love to see GEC make a 35 scout and would be happy with the blade configuration you described, among others. A spear main with a small clip combined with a caplifter and awl would be excellent.

Additionally, I've come to appreciate the lambsfoot blade and would think is a bold and appealing move if a maker were to use it as a secondary blade on an American made knife, instead of the usual sheepfoot, pen, coping, wharncliffe or whatever. What say you?

I worked on Bill at the Rendezvous. He’s hearing that same request from more than one source, trust me!

They’re just hard to make, so he’s afraid it’ll cost more than people want to pay. I, naturally, disagree. They’d sell out in short order, I’ll bet.

I can see Bill's point. A new blade shape would necessitate additional cost but I would hope that cost could be spread over several pattern releases. It is a very useful blade and if it caught on he could corner the market! ;):) But then I'm just a consumer, so only guessing. ???
