Lets talk GEC!

So while watching YouTube videos on GEC recent releases I heard the following:

1) GEC invested in new CNC blade grind machine(s) and possibly some other equipment to increase production.

2) the 15 and 44 run may be the first to feature the new CNC blades

3) 2017 was a transition year for staff and 2018 features new staff that are able to turn out top quality knives in larger quantities.

With all these changes I’m really hoping to see some splitback whittlers in 2019. And maybe that camp knife some of you guys are dreaming about.

If I misspoke about any of these please correct me.

These all sound like positive changes.

I’d LOVE some splitbacks and a scout would be cool.

Same here. I’d like to see the return of the Geppetto Whittler, as it’s my favorite pattern. I think the investment is more about increasing production than it is about increasing the complexity of their build, though.

I have a clip main Geppetto Whittler in stag and I love carrying that knife. It’s really great.

If these splitbacks take so much time maybe GEC could have a sub team of the best craftsmen working small batches while the rest of the group works on regular production.

Just a thought.

I also talked with Roy H who does the American Whittler SFO’s and he said he’s been talking to Bill about another SFO in the future. So I feel there is hope.

I have the same as you, and I love it. I’ve had a handful of them over the years, and I’m trying to get back into a wharncliff main Whittler.

The more splitbacks the better, in my opinion.

I got stuck in a meeting and missed the Black Canvas Micarta 14 SFO...I think it's the sweetest looking one yet with that spear shield against the black! Really bummed about this one...

I wouldn't be too bummed, although I know the sting of missing the drop...

After a bunch of folks end up with twelve different 14s, they will have to "cull the herd" and there will be some of what you seek in the cull. You may even get a friendly PM from a member who scored two. Personally, I thought the spear shield on the GP SFO was a little too big.

So, what's a man gotta do to see a GEC #92 TC made? A two bladed 922213 TC would make my knees weak!

A large blade for food and a small wharncliffe for boxes and whatnot just seems like the ultimate two bladed setup to me (and I'm sure many others). Throw in the the fantastic fit and finish that GEC is known for and the incredible good looks of Charlie's TC bolsters and that just sounds like a recipe for success to me.

Unless, of course, you can find a 100-year old example of one.

Well now... That seems like a hunt worth partaking in.

I'd be nearly as happy with a two bladed #77 barlow... But something about the thought of a #92 with the extended barlow bolsters just gets me going.

The 92 is like the Cadillac of jack knives, while the Barlow is a pure working mans knife and I love the idea of bringing the two together. I just picture a blue collar worker finally getting his grail knife and then making it his own with the barlow bolsters, lol.

Fixall Fixall they just did a run of two blade 77 Barlow this year which you can find easily on the exchange.

Sorry, I meant a two bladed 77 TC Barlow, lol.

I have been keeping my eye on the exchange for a standard two bladed 77 though, but they seem to be selling within minutes of being posted on the exchange (imagine that, lol). After my wedding next week, I should have more time (and a bigger budget) to get more serious in my hunt for a nice two bladed GEC with a small wharny.

Congratulations on your wedding!

If you had invited the forum we could have gotten you and your bride a nice gift of matching GEC 14’s!

Thanks a lot!

Haha, there we go! I'll just go ahead and post my gift registry on the forums. At least you guys won't send me messages asking why in the world I have a $300 Zwilling Bob Kramer Santoku near the top of the list (because I NEED it aunt Kathy), lol!

AHHAhhhhahahahah is right!!!

Good sport! That will help you!

:D Although we're just now getting married, we've been together almost 12 years. You don't make it that long without some flexibility and a sense of humor.

Here's a pic of my first and only GEC so I don't start to derail the thread with my wedding excitement. :)
