Lets talk GEC!

Ew.

I was hoping more like this:

Quick question. I have been fortunate with all of my GEC knives, but, I now have two with issues. I have a 72 lockback that I acquired as used, with some up and down play, I understand that this was common during a period time. I also have a 43 with a very light pull, will GEC fix these issues? On the 72 I would have no problem paying as it is not a new knife, but, is this issue repairable? Would they do anything about a very light pull, I know that its subjective and could understand them not working on it? Any thoughts from the porch? I've never had to send in a GEC for service.

Either call or send an email to Chris at GEC. I’ve sent several knives to them for various issues and they’ve always fixed them and sent them back. Sometimes it takes longer, but I think 2 months was the longest I’ve waited. I actually currently have a knife that they are fixing but it’s only been a week.

Most of the GEC lock backs I’ve handled have a slight up/down play and it’s something I’ve just come to accept. Granted, none of them are what I would consider rattle traps and the locks are definitely secure. Ask them.... they might be able to do something.

As for the weak springs.... Far as I understand it, the only way to fix that is to use a new spring, which they may or may not fix. The 43’s were known for weak springs this time around. Problem is that a lot of people complained about the heavy pulls that GEC used to be known for. The last couple of years the springs have lightened up a lot. Personally I prefer the nailbreakers, but I guess most don’t.

Good luck!

Can anyone tell me what the dimensions are for the largest GEC tube? (how tall and diameter), also the smallest. I'm thinking about making a carry/ display case.

Thanks, Rick

The largest I have is for a H73 fixed blade that is 10" tall with a circumference of 8 5/8". I don't have the smallest folders so someone else will have to chime in.

The Whaler tube is biggest in diameter, don't have one with me for exact measurements.

Fixed Blades appeared in tubes too. My Horsecut Walnut from 2007 shows 9 " /22.75 cm by 2 "/ 5cm
