Lets talk GEC!

Sounds a lot like the Texas Camp Knife tool configuration. But even better, GEC managed to combine the can opener and cap lifter into one tool. The design of this knife is absolute genius.

Yes very similar to the Texas camp, but more pocketable. Plus I would get more use out of a nice pointy wharnie than the sheepsfoot, added bonus it would sit nice and low in the handle. I’d be fine with the lifter/opener combo but again I’d get more use out of the screwdriver that typically is part of the caplifter.

Agreed. In my everyday use, a screwdriver tip is much handier than any can opener. The combo opener on the Texas Camp Knife is pretty nice for zipping open boxes from Amazon though, so it's not entirely useless. :D

I think I actually prefer the sheepsfoot over a wharncliffe for a scout pattern. The sheepsfoot seems a bit more robust in the tip. But I could live with either. I'm not too worried about how high a sheepsfoot would sit in the frame, as I don't think it would ever sit higher than the rest of the tools.

Beautiful photo. I dream of a 35 scout with that can opener, a broad spear blade, a cap lifter/screw driver, and a punch. I use a can opener all the time outdoors, usually my Leatherman's. Can opener is both historical and key for me functionally. Then the punch. I use that all the time too. I don't have much use for a flathead driver, but a bottle opener that you can't stab yourself with is nice, as is something to pry with.

I think there must be somehing seriously wrong with me.

In the past few weeks the main use of my user knives is opening packages containg other knives

I have become a ‘townie’.

Please someone, post me a dead possum. Quick.

It happens from time to time. Hibernation season is as good a time as any, I suppose.

if only I'd read this earlier...As I drove home from my late shift bus driving tonight I swerved to narrowly avoid splatting a cute lil ringtail possum that was wandering nonchalantly across the dual carriageway..I think he went between my front wheels without touching..I hope anyway. If I'da known I would have aimed better.

Some 2014 goodness. A lil flitz on the blades and bolsters and this thing looks almost brand new!

This thing is snappy pull isn't horrendous. I'm a fan of clip points so it definitely checked the box with this giant clip point. I'm not a huge spear point fan but man this spear point is great. The swedge on it is really well done. This is my first knife in camel bone and I'm a huge fan of the autumn smooth bone as well so that's a plus. I don't mind the hot dog shield, just another one in the collection with that shield. Overall great knife and I'm gonna carry the heck out of it!

Trying out new patterns is definitely working out for me. I have my first #66 stockman on the way and couldn't be more excited!

Nice knife! Pretty sure that's camel bone?

I sure hope the fine folks at GEC had a nice holiday break, and are working hard to select the best gnarly, bumpy, sambar stag for the 97 Northfields.

I think the 97 is going to be one of the best using knives they have ever made.

I sure would like to see GEC use Camel and Giraffe a time or two this year. I like the way the dye takes. Might just be my perception, but feels a bit more dense in hand. For me, it would of been great on the 06 coming up.

I thought the stag got nixed? Maybe I'm confusing it with something else. Is there a confirmed stag run on the 97's?
