Lets talk GEC!

Personally I really dig the dark blue I'm seeing so far on the Pembertons. I think it'll lighten up a bit after buffing, but I'm okay if it looks almost black with some blue highlights.

No good photos of it here in PA though until the sun comes out....those five nice days between May and September should work.

I don't have the tube so I'm not sure if it's cocobolo or ebony, but it's either 1 of 2 or 1 of 5.

Wow that's a nice one! Are you the original owner?

It would be cool if GEC did some really short runs like this again. Pull out the tooling make a quick short run. Then it would be good luck to us trying to hunt them down.

I would like to see GEC do a few *Limited Edition* knives per year.

Just a thought. :D

The just did about 10 85's in Ivory, so they are still doing short runs. It's more about knowing about them and where is pick them up.

I have no idea, I just know people who have them. 2 guys with 1 each and a 3rd with two. May have picked them up right at the factory.

These have to be rare, and among the more unique knives. The two very first knives to be produced by GEC.
Going back to forum comments at that time, people were not very impressed by GEC quality. Like the original knife the design was taken from, the pull is very heavy.

I agree, mix in the normal sized runs. But throw in those runs that are around 25-50 knives.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

For Example:

15/20 Tidioute Copperhead Possum Skinners
15/20 Northfield Stag Possum Skinners (or Elderberry with satin blades)

Make something at the end of a factory run without having to retool etc.

NOT SFO's -- Just something limited?

Maybe have an established GEC dealer sell them thru a *random picker* system?

Tienes algún arrepentimiento? :confused::confused::confused:

Por supuesto que si.

I don't know why GEC can't seem to get blue right. They did do a decent 2017 #48 in Blue Berry jigged bone but that seems to have been a happy mistake. Despite their other issues, Case seems to turn out one great blue jigged bone handle after another.

Anyway, I'm still keeping my reserve on the blue Pemberton.

Yeah, but that's about the only color Case seems to get right consistently...they should compare notes. I have a couple really well done Case knives that would be perfect if the color wasn't all jacked up.

The 82 does not have half stops does it? Does a model number always have or not have half stops, or do they sometimes change it up over time?

So far (I believe), half-stops or cam tangs have been consistently specific to each pattern. Sometimes it's the only difference between two pattern numbers.

It wasn't that long ago that there were many calls for making larger runs so that knives were not so hard to obtain.
The whole "lolly scramble" for short runs will be frowned upon by everyone that doesn't score said knife.

So, it is somewhat of a moving target. But I guarantee the solution is not to send each dealer a couple of a limited edition knives.

knifeswapper knifeswapper - I totally agree with what you just stated.

My wallet and my wife are still happy that I don’t want any upcoming GEC’s.

I’m excited to see how the blue bone turns out, but I agree the jigging itself looks weak.

I’m looking forward to some deep jigging like on the 2016 85’s and 77’s on a future release.

I think some people need to realize that your not gonna always get a knife you want. That especially goes with high demand patterns. Heck I know I will never land a #15 clip point TC barlow in soup bone. But if I really wanted one I would be on the exchange and want to by threads trying to aquire one. Sometimes half the fun is looking and searching and always trying to get one. I was lucky and was able to get past runs of #77 barlows by either A.) Being right by my phone when they were announced via reservation (luck) or 2.) The secondays market and being the 1st to claim (luck). Sometimes you gotta work a lil harder for what you want which I'm fine with. It's not gonna ruin my day if I don't get a certain knife. I'm fine with large runs or smaller runs, all the same to me. And I have in no way an unlimited bank roll for knives. I get the ones that I really think I will enjoy. If I don't I sell em.

I am not to sold on the jigging on the blue bone for the Pembertons. Maybe it's hard to tool such a small cover IDK. I am glad that I was able to reserve a stag and smooth bone (luck). LOL

Hello,
I'm trying to find some information on my Northfield Bullet End Jack.
Anyone know an approximate year it could have been made and why it has a zero.
I always thought the serial numbers released started at 2.
Thanks for any help.20190111_161628.jpg 20190111_161652.jpg
