Lets talk GEC!

I'm excited to see some of these stag Pembertons. The stag samples I saw on the progress pics looked good!

The quantity of the 97 stag is in question due to the possibility of having limited high quality stag that is large enough for the knife.

I sure would like to see GEC use Camel and Giraffe a time or two this year. I like the way the dye takes. Might just be my perception, but feels a bit more dense in hand. For me, it would of been great on the 06 coming up.

Mike's recent run of NF Barlows had one in Camel Bone. It was called Elderberry but it ended up being a rather vibrant shade of pink... I can't recall what Mike was aiming for in regards to hue but I don't think it came out as anticipated. The only reason that I am somewhat on the fence when it comes to the denser bones is that the dye is hit and miss. Some of them look great; others, not so much.

I have to wonder at times as well if GEC leaves their bone in the dye vats long enough. Some of the colors lately have seemed a bit washed out. The Elderberry on the recent 82s is absolutely superb though, but it makes me wonder all the same.

I have only one knife in camel bone: a #18 Coyote.

I think the dense bone doesn't take the dye very well, but in the case of the brown dye, I kind of like the washed out look. I chose the lightest colored one because I told myself it must have the densest bone. ;):thumbsup:

tmd_87 tmd_87 According to GEC production totals your knife doesn't exist...there is no smooth autumn gold bone in Tidioute trim much less camel bone. Score!
Hmmmmm......I did google the knife and it came up on knives ship free. So who knows? Haha

Yeah, Taylor, yours was from an SFO of Derrick Bohn's, not listed in the Tidioute totals but at the end.
Awesome, it's a great knife. Amazing dye job, it looks to have had pocket time and looks like original edge though!

The dyeing is obviously not an exact science because sometimes the opposite is true. I have a 2016 #14 in "Stone Wash Blue Jig Bone" that looks black. The upcoming "blue" Pembertons look similarly dark in the in-progress photos.

Not complaining though. I'm keeping my Early Reserve.

Tienes algún arrepentimiento? :confused::confused::confused:

Frankly, I'm a little sour (jigging :oops:/color o_O) but will wait to see the final production knife. :D

I like the #06 size/blade for intricate fruit carving. ;)
