Lets talk GEC!

It's not an either / or situation. Actually, the reason we are sad at the paucity of GEC stainless is simply because GEC has remarkably good quality consistency, excellent range of handle options, comprehensive and changing patterns (some natural slowing down of this and the SFO boom no doubt) and really well executed carbon knives. We'd just like to see more of the same in stainless too. ' Rustproof Cult.'

No argument here. Just sharing thoughts. :)

You're probably right. I'm probably just getting emotional because of other garbage I'm dealing with today. I was coming here to attempt to take a break from the nonsense, and apparently I only succeeded in bringing it here with me. Thanks to you all for allowing me a brief respite, even if it's at your own detriment. I really respect the opinions I read here, as you are all far more knowledgeable than I am in regards to knives. I apologize if I don't always portray that.

While I strongly lean towards the carbon side there is no doubt stainless has its fit. I finally cracked on the first run of 42's in stainless and bought a green linen to throw in my truck. No worries with rust on the blade along with a stable handle material that can take -30 to 120 degree temperature swings, perfect fit. I would also be the first in line for a sheepsfoot Radio in stainless as this would be a sweet summer companion to my Corona and lime, in Sunbrite yellow please :D

I went ahead last night and got an early reserve on a few of those 77s. Any idea on when they're coming out?

The Forums knife is due for October/November and the GEC schedule only shows a #99 between the #42's and the #77's...so I would assume that this happens before the end of the year.

Check out that new GEC etch!

Good eye Phil, I didn't catch that earlier, but I think I like it! It reminds me of some of the etches found on vintage blades. I don't think these will last long, as the earlier run this year was gone in hours, but maybe there are more elk available this time around. Great knife!

Thanks Rob :) I'm only missing 1 of the #48s they made for the Rendezvous... A #48 Jack with the burn orange wave jigged bone like the one above but with the pen opening on the mark side instead of the pile side. The numbers Charlie posted from Christine say only 2 were made. That #48 and one of Charlies DE #48 Jacks in Antique Yellow bone (only 3 made) are the only #48 jacks GEC ever made that I'm missing. Here's the rest of my #48 Jack group.

What is the Charlies DE #48 Jacks in Antique Yellow bone (only 3 made) are the only #48 jacks GEC ever made that I'm missing? I have a few 48's from rendezvous myself.

^^ I agree. The red micarta looks great! I have two with maroon micarta, and three in OD green. GEC does really nice micarta.

Charlie aka Waynorth had 2 blade jacks modeled after the Schrade 294 Jacks, specifically the Shapleigh Diamond Edge jack with the diamond shield and DE stamp. Here's one of Charlies's pics I saved that has the Schrade, Primble, and Shapliegh versions.

The #48 DEs were made as jacks in Blood Red Bone (first two in left column in my pic) and Old Tan Bone (fourth and fifth in second column) as well as a single blade version with just the clip in Antique Yellow Bone (pic below). GEC had 3 left over pen blades and they put them together with the Antique Yellow Bone covers. I have at least one of every 2 blade jack (clip/pen) GEC made on the #48 frame except one of the 3 DE Jacks in Antique Yellow bone and one of the Rendezvous jacks with pen on the mark side.

Beautiful #48s!!

Thank you for that info about Charlie's 48's. I love reading up on something I don't know. Here is a partial list of the rendezvous knife list Charlie posted.
The red linen is on it I believe....thanks again.

I was trying to find the 48 Diamond Jack in the single blade version. I didn't know Charlie made it in the Blood Red Bone. I did know about the Old Tan Bone. I have both the 2 bladed Diamond Jacks in Blood Red Bone and the Old Tan Bone. Time to hunt again.....The Diamond Edge I never heard of..thank you!!

No problem :)

I believe that list is only for knives that were offered by GEC at the Rendezvous. I have a Sunbrite and Red Linen version too but I got them from a dealer a couple weeks before the Rendezvous. They were made with left over scales/bolsters from another #48 SFO so GEC put on some covers and split the knives (just the single blade ones) with the dealer. I believe there are actually 8-10 of the Sunbrite and Red Linen versions made. The blades were made in 2011, probably left over #48 Templar blades but with the regular Northfield etch. In 2011, the Templars were the only #48s made with the slim clip. GEC also introduced/released their own jacks and Western Trappers in 2011 but those have the big clip, not the slender clip blade.

GEC has made left over parts knives in the past but I think this year was the first year that they were pretty much only available at the Rendezvous instead of released to dealers who wanted them.

Wow....what a wealth of knowledge on the 48 production. I am new to this and only got my knives from dealers after the show and from Charlie. I have the radio style sunbrite and the one armed razor also.
Thank you for the production numbers. I am on Japan time so time to sleep. Thanks again and you have really helped me out on these.

I was wondering if the 2 #48 Fire Flame Acrylic's in your collection are part of the 5 made for Rendezvous 2014? I just picked up my second one of EBAY. That makes 4 I know who own.

The 2 #48 Fire Flame Acrylic jacks are part of the 10 made for the Rendezvous. I picked them up from folks who were able to attend the Rendezvous.
