Lets talk GEC!

I have a question for those with more comprehensive knowledge of GEC releases.
Has the 78 Spear ever been made in Bearhead? How many Appolossa Bones were made? Keep missing out on them on the Exchange :(

Regards, Will

Thanks! That's something to hope for then....looking around for a Barehead single Spear, not an easy quest-I have a custom but no production version.

this^^^ x3. A well executed knife and one of my personal favorites for simplicity and functionality. There’s a number available with the bail and chain, but I’ve seen somewhere where a customization is to put a decorative pin in that hole which is pretty snazzy.

The 2018 run of 15s truly was superb.
I loved the bail and chain knives.

I think the giant upcharge for the chain, and the fact that it gets in the way for many users, slowed the sales on that model quite a bit. And that removing the B&C voids the warranty apparently.

Can someone please explain what rod sucker wood is on this run of 86s? Thanks
This is reference to modern day wells...
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sucker_rod

What GEC uses are the sucker rods from old wells in the area, or ones that were replaced by newer sucker rods. The old rods were commonly made from ash, though they could have been any type of wood.

Honestly googling “sucker rod” was the first thing I did. I’m big into wood working, though I’m continually surprised by the varieties of wood out there that I don’t know about.

I was disappointed (from a wood worker stand point) to know that a sucker rod is not a type of wood, but rather the gizmo that pumps oil or water up from old fashioned wells. From a knife buyer’s perspective I think it’s very creative of GEC to repurpose that wood. It has a story, and I’m I much more attached to items with stories. I would appreciate the wrench shield more, except that it’s a little too on the nose- as if I imagine someone saying “this is supposed to evoke working in an oil field, so let’s slap a wrench on there”. It looks good, it’s just not hitting it for me on this pattern.

Very nice and quite the irony as I already have one :D No, not evidence of too many knives (yet..) by forgetting I have one, I was very tired in the original post and mis worded it. I meant, a larger type of Barehead Spear. Time GEC made a large Barehead Swell End or Teardrop..

Here's the 15 but I have to say not THAT keen on the colour or jigging, thinking of getting it re-shod in Ivory Bone:cool: Needs a Longpull too:D

Here's a Longpull Barehead, but alas too small, a 14 Near but not near enough;)
