Lets talk GEC!

So is the unicorn ivory actually acrylic or do they use some kind of white bone?
It's an acrylic. It has a very subtle grain, almost like ivory or "french ivory". I believe they had trouble with it coming out brittle and cracking. I picked up this one on a discount because of a small cosmetic flaw. The only thing I could find wrong when I looked it over were a few tiny chips near the bolster.

So are the unicorns sustainably harvested? Are any virgins killed or injured during the process? ;)
A whole mess of doves were sacrificed, but I don't know if they were virgins or not. ;)

Man, now I want another unicorn ivory to go with my WLST. I hope these 62s aren't coming out until late next spring. I've got to get through the holidays and tax season...

I'm actually pumped about this pattern. I was hoping for a equal end knife with a clip and opposing pen blade on a single spring so this should scratch that itch until I see the 35/53s come out.

I am really hoping for a large run of 77s next year. The Barlows are nice but I would really like to see a big run of regular jacks - barehead, with interesting cover options, with either a clip or spear main and a coping secondary.

Since I've been a member here and been privy to the game, GEC has not done a run of 77s outside of the Barlows. I'd like to see that change.

I'm going to be in for one in jigged bone and the unicorn acrylic...love the shield on those.

Maybe a stag too if I can find a nice thin one.

The 62 and 33 are my favorite GEC patterns and both are long overdue for a run.

I love that some of these old patterns are finally getting a return. 62 is a fave. Can the canoe be far off? I know it didn't sell well and sat on shelves back in the day, but so did the big-uns, like the whalers, etc. Times have changed.

The Canoe offers something different it's true but I never did fancy the GEC interpretation of it. Far too much bolster relative to the whole frame, kind of double-end Barlow effect :thumbsdown:

Whilst we're on bolsters...the forthcoming 62 could look superb with a tip bolster arrangement  but there could be production problems or limitations with executing it. Pinched will do! Must say the 62 really draws me in as I missed out by procrastinating & dithering over the first run:rolleyes: Although the frame is different, it's similar to a Norfolk type knife and they attract me.

I don't know, that Unicorn stuff leaves me a bit cold frankly. It doesn't SEEM to have much grain in it which is a pity. Looks a bit too flat and bathroom cabinet top looking ;) A grainy Ivory colour linen micarta would be another matter

I think it looks really good in hand and I'm typically not a fan of faux materials.
A nice color, a good amount of grain and randomness.
Each is different, mind you.
