Lets talk GEC!

Jiki Jiki nice work! I just got some basswood in so I'm hoping to put my new 29 to work. It will my first whittling project, I hope I don't chop a figure off.

Wear a glove, wood breaks.

Cost me 7 stitches earlier this year.

I suggest GEC wait a couple years and do a run of two blade #22 small Gunstocks with spear main. That would make for the tang number: 222222. ;)
:thumbsup::thumbsup::D
They should have done a beagle with a clip main and 7 secondary blades last year.
:cool::cool::p

I have to confess that interesting tang numbers are my favorite aspect of GEC products. :rolleyes:
I'm hoping that next year will bring a run of boys knives with a single cotton sampler blade: 159121, a number that, read backward, is personally meaningful! :thumbsup::cool::cool::thumbsup:;)
(If GEC doesn't come through with that, maybe I can get Darren @waverave to photoshop one for me. :D:thumbsup:)

What a difference a year makes ... A year ago I was on my way to deer camp and decided to stop at GEC in Titusville..... I owned many modern folders and only a couple traditionals but no GEC's.... I wanted to pick up a knife that said "Tidioute"....

Bill Howard greeted me and took me into the store..... I looked through his display cases and finally settled on a single blade 38 in Bocote wood.... Bill encouraged me to use the knife but I told him that I'd keep it as a souvenir.... I told him that I liked modern folders better..

So some time goes by and I fell into the rabbit hole..... Haven't bought a modern folder since but you can see I have picked up a couple GEC's!!.. The photo shows the GEC knives I've bought in the past year.... I really like GEC but never use them.... So far my favorite is a 93 Ramfoot in Oily bone...20191123_131848.jpg

I bought my first GEC only 2 months ago. I currently have 23 and 5 GEC made Northwoods. I know exactly what you mean by falling down the rabbit hole!! But what a fantastic hole it has been. I can’t wait to see what other patterns I can pick up and what GEC will release (hopefully another canoe will come soon).

28 knives in 2 months...that's impressive!

Just enjoying these 92s still. Getting ready for Christmas.

Awesome. It's a good color green you've chosen. All too often, an evergreen-colored, ornament, which is very "Christmas - looking" on the store shelf, become completely lost against an evergreen tree. That green will pop, however. :thumbsup: Even you chosen knife is feeling the season to come. :)

The Canoe offers something different it's true but I never did fancy the GEC interpretation of it. Far too much bolster relative to the whole frame, kind of double-end Barlow effect :eek::thumbsdown:

I agree with this. The Canoe uses 2 of the copperhead style bolster that's also on the 65 which is a much larger knife and has an even smaller end cap. I can only imagine what stag might look on it. :eek:

They could make an interesting bare head with that copperhead bolster... something smaller than the 65. That would be pretty neat.

Looks like you're off to a great start! I think you should take Bill's advice and choose one to use. I was like you at one time but came to realize that true enjoyment comes from having one in your pocket and watching it age with use. They also double as good worry stones! Most of mine sit unused only to be admired on occasion but I have an extra special appreciation for my users.

Wow, I've got some catching up to do. Here's my haul for the year. Still waiting on a 92 from Germany, the Forum knife, and the Waynorth Black Jack ...

If your sage advice had only come sooner. I antiqued them last night. While still like them, I will do something different in the future. Taking your advice into consideration.

Did you whittle those only using your 92 or do you also use other tools as well?
