Lets talk GEC!

I have definitely heard several people on Blade Forums that I respect mention how happy they were with their Case Swaybacks. I shouldn’t have been complaining. Maybe after a few thousand more openings and closings it will wear in.
This is not GEC related but fits with the conversation. I was the same way as you when I got my swayback jack. It was such a nice knife and I really wanted to like it but never used it because I didn’t like the action on it. Very soft opening and closing on the main blade. I sent it to Case and told them the action was very light compared to all my other Cases and they fixed it free under warranty. I’m not sure what they did, but it came back with great snap. I use it a lot more now and really enjoy it. It’s amazing how much the walk and talk could change my feelings toward a knife.

Straying even farther off topic....the one knife I sent to Case because I was unsatisfied was "fixed" and sent back rapidly. I can't complain about their warranty service.

You are not complaining but doing the right thing, telling it how it is  I've always felt that people should share their experiences good&bad of all knives irrespective of the knife's 'reputation' . You are a respected and serious contributor so any observations you make are certainly not going to be fault finding or complaints for the sake of it:)

Thanks, Will
Thanks Will. I read my post a few hours later and worried that I might open up the thread to comments that were not really productive. For example, people might start in on some “Case knives suck” stories. And then people might come in to defend Case with their good Case stories. We have all seen that kind of stuff before. But, I probably overthought it.

I do love the nearly sunken joint on my Case Swayback. That is another positive on a pretty good knife. And since this is a GEC conversation, I really would love to see GEC put out some jigging similar to the Case pocket worn jigging. I like each smooth and founded little jigging pocket.

+1, as much as I love my GECs, and I very much do, the jigged bone usually isn’t as nice, so I find myself enjoying the smooth wood, micarta and bone handles on GEC more. My Pemberton has decent jigging and finish, but nothing beats the pocket worn feel. I’d like to see more smooth bone offerings from GEC instead of that aggressive, symmetrical jigging they tend to do. I know it sounds like I’m complaining, but this is one of those “if it was my choice” dreams.

All this talk of the 83...one of my favourites, an excellent compact lockback. GEC offered 2 blade options Clip or Drop-Point, much prefer the Drop-Point over any Clip:D Lies low and sleek in the frame. My one criticism, pity about that lanyard hole desecrating some quite good Stag;) It's too small a knife to host a lanyard hole, bails are another thing I'm less than enamoured by:eek:

I love the stag on that one. Perfect Popcorn.

Travman Travman I wish GEC would have expanded on their worm groove after the BF #35.

The best jigging on any GEC I’ve bought, is on Charlie’s SFO Rope Knife. I happened to admire mine as I was rotating knives last week. Also, Charlie’s SFO, the Peach Seed TC was another great jigging job by GEC.

I’m pinning for my forum knife that is on its way.

Seems like we may not get any more production photos until after the holiday break. I don't recall, does GEC shut down for both weeks?

I couldn't agree more, Will. Nicely said.

In regards to the Swayback Gent, I've had two pass through my hands. I kept one and moved the other along. The one I kept has terrific action for a small knife and I couldn't be happier with it. The one that I moved along was a bit softer and sluggish, although it felt like it only needed a good and thorough flushing. I still feel it might have been on the lighter side in regards to my tastes.

I would be thrilled if GEC were to produce their take on a swayback gent, it could be a pretty awesome little knife.

I'd like more smooth bone as well. I think I'm in a very small minority that prefers smooth over any type of jigged bone.
My "if it was my choice" dream would be flush pins...

Great to see Old Gnarly again Will .

I'm sure they're busy! I do miss the production update photos though... They always helped heighten the excitement

Just noticed some minor blade rap on my #92 spear blade... ugh. Most people wouldn’t have noticed, I’m sure, but the shiny blunted section of edge is definitely there. Whhhhyyyyyy?!?
