Lets talk GEC!

All I want for Christmas is......

Gec to bring back the 09 Esquire!

Really wishing I didnt pass on these during the original release(like a lot of runs). I wouldnt mine if this new one had a clip main either. But hopefully the thing they change is going to tip bolsters like this example I found on the web. I doubt they would add a shield but I certainly wouldnt mind one :)

Merry Christmas fellow GEC enthusiasts!

I'm in! I kick myself often for passing the 09s, especially the shell ones.

Great picture of that #09. I have a #09 and I like it fairly well, don't see myself letting it go, but I have to say, I'm not sure I'd buy a second one. If they are compared to the GEC Beagle, I feel like the Beagle blows the #09 out of the water. Of course, it's a single spring vs. a 2-spring jack, so it's a little apples to oranges there. But considering the size and blade shapes, they are direct competitors. I love small knives, but the Beagles have basically bumped the #09 out of my pocket forever. The spear on the #09 shorter than that of the beagle (because it has to clear the little coping when closed on this single spring pattern). So the net-effect is that the beagle, which is basically the same small package, has a noticeably longer, more useful, blade. I guess the beagle is thicker, but I don't really notice it. All that said, I gotta admit...the #09 is a real looker, especially the example shown in the picture above.

All of the above pretty much applies to the #06 Pemberton as well. I still like the 09 Esquire a lot as a watch pocket companion to a larger knife. You never know when you'll need a little pocket scalpel.

I completely see what you are saying. I love my coyote(single spring beagle with wharncliffe). Personally, I am not a fan of jack knives with the blades on the same end so I have that prejudice working here.

The thing I love about the esquire is its size. While it may be longer than a 06 or 22. It is much slimmer, compact and none stout in stature comparatively. I like that it completely disappears in your pocket. My tastes have changed with my job requirements but it would have been fun to try and use it during my install days. See how much I could achieve without pulling out the backup.

I did briefly own an esquire in stag. Unfortunately I cant access my photobucket anymore but I returned it for the severe krink in the main blade. I wish I would have got another in the calico like the picture I found and shared in the previous post.

It would be fun to see a lot of handle options again, see what GEC changes with the pattern. I wish like a lot of other folks they would make some smaller frame runs. They are missing a 3.25" serpentine frame(small stockman please). Its fun to wish and speculate but I really appreciate some of their past releases and wish the would revisit them more. Lately it does seem like they have struck a balance of new and old patterns and I like that.

Great pic!
I also have a single wharncliffe pemberton. Same blade size for both the 06 and 18. I have been debating on buying a spear 06 and deleting the coping blade to slim it down. A bonus for the 09 in my eyes, two blades on one spring. Again, personal preference.

Lol I asked him after Onearmbladenut Onearmbladenut posted his thread about OKCA making Trapper knives in 2020. I just try not to do something that's gonna make people not trust to tell me things. I like to know what's going on, but I try not to leak things when requested not to.

If I remember correctly Onearmbladenut Onearmbladenut said he saw a prototype. I heard of it before his thread because someone at the Allegheny Mountain Knife Collectors Association club that I go to had spoken to Bill and heard that the #23 was a possibility for our club knife for 2020.

Yeah I saw that but didn't realize it had become common knowledge that it was in fact the #23 frame.
It's official the OKCA member knives will be a GEC#23 4.5" closed antique jigged bone with beaver shield knife. I am going to the bank , library , and the post office tomorrow.

Production schedule updated. I'm not too keen on the #62. Looks like my wallet can take a break. Good luck to those that are in search of the #62s. I'm excited for these #23s. I will definitely be in on one, hopefully.
I said to myself that same thing. I put in a pre-order on the #62 rotten nana camel bone. And now a notice for #62 Easy pocket congress in "ironwood" SFO for DLT Trading. I spotted the scales on the GEC web-sight. I am pre-paying for my #23 OKCA member knife in antique jigged bone with beaver shield , tomorrow. (I just put in a pre-order on the two #62 Carver Cocobolo & natural white bone.) Both of these knives should be made after February 3rd. I am juggling the bones !

If it weren't for the OKCA knife, they would still be a secret. I'm hoping for two blades and a decent number of them. Time will tell

Oh gotcha, thank you. I remember reading about that. Makes sense why I'm seeing brief mentions here and there... Thanks

Do you know if the type of locking mechanism is known?

Does GEC ever run a pattern with 2 different lock mechanisms in a single production run? So for example we know the OKCA knife is a slipjoint, is there a chance they produce some 23s in the bull lock? I'm trying to slow down my knife buying but if they make a single bladed 23 with the bull lock in yellow rose bone, there is no way I can let that by without picking one up.

With that specific of a request, your wallet is probably safe

You never know with Bill Howard running the show , "Anything Goes!". Bill Howard is always full of last minute surprises with no "Heads Up". If we could get a large number of Blade Forum members to order a #23 Trapper single blade with a bull lock , we could be rocking.. Yellow is an acquired tastes color. Rotten Banana #62 Easy Pocket Congress knives will be showing up soon. That new Chocolate Almond peach-seed jigged bone blows me away. It is a soft light brown almond color with dark chocolate highlights. The best new brown color I have seen by GEC. Those bones scales were suppose to be dark chocolate peach-seed jigged bone and they looked horrible on GEC production web-sight photos. The pre-orders did not sell out. JSR pumped out a few at a time over two weeks after the release. Those knives are fetching killing prices on Evil-bay. GEC Chocolate Almond is the best new bone color of 2019. Bill Howard nail it on that one ! I am an Oily Creek bone nut , that is burnt out on antique yellow bone. I want to see GEC Chocolate Almond wavy rogers jigged bone scales. A GEC #23 Trapper single blade "nail nick" bull-lock slip joint chocolate almond wavy rogers jigged bone with bomb shield. That would be the perfect Blade Forum 2020 member knife to me.
