Lets talk GEC!

The handle does nothing for me but the long clip blade, especially with the long pull on the 63/64/65 look beautiful!!

As for blue acrylic, I think either of these would work.. Blue Tuna and Blue Denim acrylic

blue tuna looks about perfect for the knife, LG abalone would also work.

Agree, I forgot about the Abalone. GEC did make a Tidioute #65 with the Blue Abalone.

Quick question for the historians out there. What does TK stand for with regards to the 53 patter tk cuban?

Terry Kifer, a loyal GEC regular and not a Forumite. The blade pattern on the TK Cuban was designed to his numerous requests for the pattern. Has any body here seen the GEC Cleaver? Also requested by Terry.

Many thanks Bob.

Last deer season I visited GEC and after the "private" tour (they are all private, just walk in) I entered the store. Of all the patterns on display, this large equal end single spring kept calling my name. As I peered into the glass case someone came in and kind of hung over my shoulder, anxious to see what I would pick to begin my traditional knife addiction. Yes it was Mr. Bill, and he was as excited as I was to pick out my first GEC. I asked him what he thought about the large equal end, he said that it was one of his favorite in the case and that it was named after a customer that sought out the pattern. I just didn't think to ask him who. Thanks for filling me in. I'd like to meet Mr. Kifer some day.

My first GEC, a Copperhead Jigged Bone TK Cuban. I have babied that thing since purchase and recently, off the exchange, picked up a slightly used but well cared for twin. It has been in my pocket ever since. And the culprit that begun the addiction has been "put up".

The best place to meet TK would be the GEC Rendezvous. He has a great collection of Antique Pennsylvania made slip joints and str8 razors. Oh, and GEC's!

man, those blue covers are all nice. I wish there were more available as of recent with variants of blue covers...

Thanks. I have to admit, I do like blue bone covers too. Preferably a dark blue. There are still Hawthorns available in the same blue camel bone like my #65 above. These are the 2 I have.

The new run of single-blade 77 Barlows will have long pulls on the clip and sheepsfoot blades (still crescent nick on the wharncliffes) and nickel silver pins/liners!
I like to think I successfully lobbied for the latter; I think much of the appeal of the Charlows was the uniform look achieved with steel pins and liners. NS components will achieve the same effect I expect.

I can't wait to grab a few of the sheepsfoot Marlows!

I am really looking forward to the next 77 run. Can someone answer this question for me; what precisely is poineer bone? How is different from the other various forms of bone?
Many thanks to whomever responds.
B.

Have GEC made a knife with nickel silver liners before?

And will any of the #77 barlows be single bladed?

Baldy, pioneer bone is just regular bovine bone treated to make it look weathered, or old. Not sure if it is dyed or burnt or both, but it looks good to me!

And will any of the #77 barlows be single bladed?

according to the designer, this next run will all be single bladed, choice of clip point, wharncliffe or sheepsfoot. Each variation will be made in four handles: old tan saw cut bone, old red saw cut bone, African Blackwood and stag.

Personally, I thought the 2 bladed run was excellent, but these are really going to be great!

I think that #77 Wharncliffe blade looks great, but I have to confess to whinceing every time i see it on a Barlow frame.
