Let's talk Northwoods

First time Northwoods owner here. Snagged a mammoth Heritage and it’s incredible. I’m scared to actually use it, but it’s such an amazing knife I’d love it to be a user and for my kids to have it one day as an heirloom. On the flip side it’s gorgeous but I’m not a collector, so I’d feel bad with it just gathering dust or being looked at! Anyone else struggle with putting a great NW into use?
I struggle with that too on pricier knives. The hardest cut is the first...then after that it’s game on. I recommend using it, taking care of it, and passing it down. There will always be more knives...Post some picts, sounds like you have a great piece for an heirloom!

Once I figure out how to embed a picture in the thread instead of a link, will do.

There will be two possible answers to your “to use or not to use” conundrum, with probably equally passionate feelings on each side. If I was in your position, I’d keep that knife in the wax paper in the tube in some reasonably dry environment like a dresser or desk drawer, oil the joint quarterly and leave it in pristine NIT condition to one of my kids. You can probably get another NW to use in 3 or 5 months but the odds of your ever getting another mammoth are bordering on nil. If I had the chance to leave a mammoth knife to my son, I wouldn’t be using that knife. I have others to use.

Not sure about the near zero chance. Maybe it was beginners luck but I snagged a couple NW in this drop. I feel good about chances in the future too. For now I’m sticking with my 92 daily driver until I figure out what to do with the mammoth.

Logan, I just checked my Waynorth Lambsfoot, and the striations on mine are barely visible, and can't be felt. So maybe individual polishing has something to do with their prominence.

Thanks for checking! That's what I suspected. It would make sense that you could notice them more on the Northwoods, due to their more "rustic" finish.

Picture break.

Started reading from the beginning of this thread last night. Only about 130 pages to go. Here’s a recent addition to the Northwoods lineup.
